I've been going through Wikipedia, scanning the stuff about the Mormon church, partly from boredom, and partly because El Reg has been lately bitching about Wikipedia being worthless

I always find it fascinating that people are willing to rationalize their beliefs to the point of ignoring incontrovertible evidence that the very origins of their belief system were nothing more than fakery and a hoax. It ofen doesn't even seem to matter what their beliefs are; they will find a way to condone it to themselves, even to the point of gross overkill, such as legislating belief, starting wars and killing people in the name of it. This tendency, of course, does not make them necessarily right, but it definitely makes them wrong much louder, which in many people's minds is apparently the same things as being right in the first place.
I'm not certain what exactly you're saying. Are you saying that I amuse you because I still believe even though there are some pretty strong reasons to question things?
I believe, but there are some things that I find confounding.
Yet, perhaps there is a reason for the thing that I find confounding, only I don't know what that reason is yet.
There is something that is called Dark Energy, only I don't have a clue what it is... but there is something going on there for sure, something that we'll call, for the moment, Dark Energy. We just have to work on it until we figure it out. (by we, of course, I do not mean you and me, I mean all those physicists and whatnot.)
Also, "incontrovertible" - You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Not that I disagree with your point generally ... My father in law is one of those people, in some ways. If you get into a discussion with him re: religion (probably other stuff too), his way of countering your point is to restate his - louder.
I'm just saying that I am, of course, right, only I don't have all the answers yet. And if you're talking about ME ignoring incontrovertible evidence, you are of course silly.
Fooling with my tags, and ended up re-reading this entry. I re-read my own stuff a lot. I seem to be fascinated by me.
First off, this one is just funny. I mean, seriously. A mob murdered him because he started a religion, one that wanted to live differently than other people. Either way you look at it, that is the bullshit. Until jihad or something equivalent is declared, you just put up with and ignore religious people. That's what the first fucking amendment is for. Why would you even provide this link for me? This is what I'm talking about below, about infuriating. Putting aside that bit, the rest of it is really a humorous read - which is, I think, what Rotten is about? Sort of like Something Awful, but without all the scruples

Believe what you want.
Off the top of my head. If I get more time, maybe I will look around for a few more...
