Well, sheesh, I posted just about nothing about the editing of my NaNo novel (The Assassin's Flute, hereinafter TAF), despite my original plan to blog the heck out of it. So it is my happy duty to update that we're 95% of the way to actual release! I finished the edit on June 12th, submitted my text to CreateSpace, and have ordered an author's proof for final review. Once that clears, I go live, and the book (***my book!!!!!***) will be available for sale through CS's site, Amazon, and Amazon UK, plus (probably) Kindle. Buy one and make me feel like a success. =) --Seriously, it is just mind-boggling how easy these indie publishers make the making-a-book process. It may be kinda pitiful that it's taken me till the age of *eek* 57 to publish a first novel, but I see no reason why I can't do at least one more the same way (already in the works! Look for The Enchanter's Pearls, book 2! =) and maybe a whole series. Heck, gods willing, I could have a respectable-looking shelf ten years from now.
Am I 100% happy with TAF? well, no. Writing something (a) original and (b) this long is NOTHING like writing long fanfic. I had to UNlearn almost as much as I learned. There is so much to keep in mind and keep consistent that it's wicked hard to also keep a steady tone and style, with the result that not much of this book's prose *sigh* even sounds like my writing to me. But the June version is a lot better than the November version was, and I feel confident that the second book will be better still. And hey, it's still got the good stuff: steampunk machinery and youkai boys in love! =)
Anther update soon *whew*
