Things are pretty tense still after the elections. Some are ecstatic, some are running for the hills. Some are spoiled winners, some are sore losers. Fighting. Bickering. Pointing fingers. Hate.
But.
There are
these people. They still understand that we are one country. We are not Republicans. We are not Democrats. Libertarians. Greens. Fascists. Communists. We are Americans.
So listen up:
Republicans!
Remember that this is a country of democracy. Obama won the presidential seat fair and square: both in the majority and the electoral vote. Do not stoop so low as to say "Well, he's not my President!" Well, YES HE IS! He is because the United States is an amazing country which provides each and every capable American with a chance to speak out and be heard. Now that that process has taken place, stand back, calm down, and look not only to four years from now, but look to today and see what you can do with the 52 in making this country even better.
Democrats!
It is indeed your right to breathe some fresh air and be glad in your victory this day. But remember that you cannot get too high without losing your focus on what's at hand. Be elated. Be excited. Dance for joy! Because you and the 48 have a chance to make this country better. Do not scorn the defeated, nor gloat in your victory. Remember that you were, not so long ago, in the minority yourself. Now, let this election serve as a reminder that democracy does work and your voice can be heard!
So stand up for your brothers and sisters, one and all. You may not agree. You may still piss each other off. But, dammit! You're Americans! ACT LIKE IT!
