Exquisite Rebel- The essays of Voltairine De Cleyre- Anarchist, Feminist, Genius by Voltairine de Cleyre, Edited by Sharon Presley and Crispin Sartwell
These essays, which are written exquisitely, take from other Anarchist theories points that I find myself looking at much more intently these days. The underlying religious tones in a willingness to embrace doctrine as proposed by Tolstoy also caused a shocking self reflection in between her pages.
One year ago, I could not have believe myself fitting into this hand made series of essays. From which results that I now must pull out my new set of knowledge and re-evaluate everything once more. Not as a huge doubt of de Cleyre's deductions, but at knowing my own self-doubt and wondering whether de Cleyre's never-ending self analysis could find herself at times wishing to come up with a more solid position on many points as I myself find my own mind doing.
Though on this point I will wholly find no hesitation to wrap my entire position around, and I unashamedly repost it here in its entirety:
Owing to a perhaps natural misunderstanding, it was stated in the American Congress that I am a worker in the cause of Anarchist Communism. The report should have said Anarchism, simply, as I am not now, and never ahve been at any time, a Communist. I was for several years an indiviudalist, but becoming convinced that a number of the fundamental propositions of individualistic economy would reuslt in the destruction of equl liberty, I relinquihsed those beliefs. In doing so, however, I did not accept the proposed economy of Communism, which in some respects woudlentail the same result, destruction of equal freedom; always, of course, in my opinion, whicih I very willingly admit should not be weighed by others as of equal value with the opinions of those who make economy a thorough study, but which must, nevertheless, remain supereme with me. I am an Anarchist, simply, without economic label attached.
