There's one big advantage of having long bus trips to go through every day, when I'm not busy beating the tar out of the terrible AI on the poker game on my cellphone I get a chance to stare out the window and think about various things ( Read more... )

I'm not really bitter towards the Christians, I'm bitter with the religion itself, the people are trying their best to find a way to live their lives in an ethical, moral manner.

But the problem is that since they were born they have been taught some of the most atrocious things available. They've been taught that man is sinful, and that not only should one limit thoughts like lust and jealousy, but that the very thoughts themselves are wrong.

Thoughts and instincts aren't wrong, they're part of what makes us who we are, and although its acceptable to scold ones self for negative thoughts, at the same token one must accept that they are part of you and that they don't make you a poor person.

Instead, the church has chosen the most dangerous option. They have positioned themselves as being the 'source' for salvation, and in the case of some churches, salvation at a material cost.

Its a slippery slope from the negative thoughts to a negative opinion of ones self in the eyes of god, to a rationalization that evil is unavoidable, and from the rationalization that evil is unavoidable but that forgiveness is available, man can do great evil with the expectation that he needs only feel contrite.

And this is why Judaism is different. Absolutely opposed to that. Has been since about 5th century BCE. Freedom of thought and respect for individual judgement is a sacred truth in Judaism.

But you don't seem to want to know about the details right now...so that's cool.

It is frustrating though. Seeing all that Christian goodwill so often misdirected, often into evil deeds. You are right about the high stakes gamble they've taken...and which many, many times has failed to pay off with disastrous losses.
