Okay, SO! Last week I did something stupid which rendered it less convenient to update Skunk in the Big City. Since I'm all about convenience, it means that it's now over a week since I last updated. Oh well, I said at the beginning that I only have to do this once a week, right?
Okay, so now we have an exciting new teammate, Kadath the Munna. She's nothing special right now, but that's mostly because she's five levels behind the rest of the group. She's got Yawn, which is a sleep power and therefore nifty; Psywave, which is an inconsistent [Psychic] attack which will have to do for now, and some useless buff/debuff powers that I will endeavor to replace with powers I see as better. No listed passive ability, and I'm not sure if that's because she hasn't been in a fight yet.
I also have access to a new route! I head down Route 3, and immediately find the Pokémon Daycare. Which will be useful in the future, though right now less so. The attendant is standing at the fence, watching two Pokémon chase each other. "Sometimes they let us play with the Pokémon!". Admittedly I've never been involved with Kenneling in our world, but I would think they would have regular scheduled playtime to keep the Pokémon mentally engaged and physically active. If I go into the back, am I going to find a bunch of tiny, bleak concrete cells for the Pokémon to be kept in?
I step inside to look the place over and am alarmed to find Lex Luthor standing there! Apparently he's a little upset that the Pokémon he left there had completely changed up his move-set in the time it had been there. I guess his plan to defeat Superman with the Mysterious Powers of Pokémon is doomed now, but it probably always was anyway. I don't tell him this, because I don't want to face the wrath of his super-science, OR his Lawyers. I don't want to find myself as a Kryptonite-studded Carbink and required by Court Order to enjoy it.
The lady behind the counter only wants to know if I want to give her my Pokémon. As currently I do not, I guess there's nothing else to do here. Next door is a human day-care, which I find a little weird, since the Day care, yeah, watches your Pokémon for you, and yeah, will level and train your Pokémon for you, but will also breed your Pokémon for you. Does that happen at the other daycare too? If I leave my son there, will I come back that evening to find he's aged five years and taken a welding class? And will he be holding my new granddaughter, encased in an egg?
Outside I run the gauntlet of trainers wanting to challenge, which because of the location is mostly little kids, but interestingly the playground monitor also wants to fight, and she's got a Munna too! It never ceases to amaze me how often, when people claim that nobody knows about something, what they really mean is "You go find out for yourself." I guess it's true the old adage: "Give a man a Gyrados, they will win a battle. Make a man evolve Magicarp and he will win ALL the battles". Wait, that doesn't make any damned sense!
As I am walking, Cheren flags me down, wanting to put some practical application to the theoretical knowledge he's been absorbing. He compliments me on my decision to use Kadath to put his Snivy to sleep and then sautee it with Flambaby, and when the fight is over wonders just why he can't seem to win against me when we have the same gym badges so statistically we should be more equal. Though, before I can respond, a couple of Team Plasma grunts barrel past, with Bianca and a friend close on their heels. These grunts just stole the girl’s pokemon. Without a second thought, Cheren and I chase them to a nearby cave. Cheren asks if I’m ready for this, and really, I’ve had a couple battles since I rested last, so I go do that (There is someone at the Human Daycare who can rest your pokemon), and run around a little in the Tall Grass to see if anything that would compliment my party is around.
In the bushes, I find a Pidove, which I name Pidge and stuff in the box because I actually kinda doubt his utility. Next I find a Blitzle I name Ed in reference to an old April Fool’s gag done by the Snopes folks. I find him kind of lacking at first, but that’s when his only attack is Quick Attack. Soon he gets Shock Wave, and wanting to test something I shoot off Charge first, and then find to my deep surprise that if I can survive to round 2, I can take most of anything’s HP in one shot with that, if not actually outright OSKO them! I have gone on the record as saying I don’t like pure buff powers, but I think I got one I like now!
The last thing I find is an Audino, which I name Gustavus. I will give you an e-cookie if you can tell me why. Anyway, I find it in some rustling grass and switch it into my party because it’s got a leg up by not being a Patrat or a Lillipup, which I am still finding with annoying regularity. I still don’t know if that’s a good choice or not because I have decided that’s enough waiting, I’m going after the Team Plasma goons now.
That said, I’m going to end this now because I’m tired and I’ve already written this over the course of two days, and don’t want to add a third.
