No shampoo

Right, so as of January 1, 2008 I haven't used shampoo in my hair, instead rinsing with a baking soda solution and/or an apple cider vinegar solution more or less as recommended by Natalie. Late in week two of the experiment my hair was almost unbearably waxy and stiff feeling, but after a couple of days it settled into its current state, which is ( Read more... )

Yeah, I was debating between a boar bristle brush and a wood tooth brush. I had a wood tooth brush for a while in college and loved it, but I think boar bristle will be better for the whole oil distribution thing.

Regarding sweat, I just have vague half-formed internet browsing-style information that sweat by itself is ok, but bacteria start decomposing it and that's what causes BO and breakouts. Heh, this is probably all related then. Probably if I was better about getting into the shower right away and rinsing I wouldn't have to worry about bacteria and thus not have to worry as much about either smell or breakouts.

Regarding my back, it used to break out more until I did the sweat research and decided based on that to always wear a clean shirt to bed. (I used to generally wear the same tshirt I wore during the day to bed.) That cleaned up my back almost entirely, and since that time I've generally assumed breakouts are related to bedtime fabrics- like not changing the pillowcase often enough. I often wear a sleeveless shirt to bed, and I'm thinking my hair oils on the sheets may be causing the breakouts. I'll try changing the sheets (or at least the pillowcase) more often perhaps.

When it's wet my hair doesn't feel greasy, but it's definitely that "new clean" feel that I'm adjusting to. It's more once it dries that I start to really get the greasy feel near the scalp. And again, really greasy="new clean"=silky and I just need to adjust. And get the boar bristle brush!

i use both, actually - i use a wood brush for detangling (which boar-bristle won't do at all, at least on my hair) and the boar-bristle afterwards.

hmm, interesting. i should make sure to do that too. for some reason, i always break out miserably in jan/feb (not my face this year since i'm using medicated stuff, but my back and chest are still doing it pretty badly - i don't use the medicated stuff there because it discolors clothes :P). so yeah, i should probably start being more careful about nightshirts/sheets too.

:)
