The Wrath of Erin
My office flooded today. Not badly, but enough that water came in the entry way downstairs. Luckily our building is on stilts so there is just parking on the first level and our offices are upstairs. The water got to the bottom of my car door, but didn't cause any damage. Water was actually flowing out of the storm drains instead of into them.
The street was flooded pretty badly. About thigh deep water. Katja and I kept going out in our bare feet, pants rolled up to check it out. The water is going down now and the rain has stopped. I just had lunch and if in the next hour or so, the water stays down, I'm going to go home early. But I'm not stupid enough to drive through water that is super deep. Unlike some of the yahoos who got their cars stuck in the street. There is another band of rain coming this way and I don't want to be stuck at the office too late since we have a plane to catch tonight. If worse comes to worse, I could probably leave my car here of the weekend and have Frank pick me up. The major street about two blocks from my office wasn't flooded too badly, so I could always have Frank pick me up from over there if nessecary. His 4Runner is a bit taller than my car.
Hopefully, of course, our plane can actually leave. But the storm should die down by 9pm tonight and the worst of the rain and flooding was located near my office, and the rain was much less intense up by the airport.
Wish me luck getting home and getting out of Houston tonight. It might be tricky!
