"Ranging"

I keep baggies of room shapes and furniture piece shapes.  My kids help me measure everything in inches and then we make our scale pieces.  This plan makes subsequent re-arranging much simpler.  I mark out doorways, windows, and vents.  I have not added electrical outlets, but that might be a good idea that had occurred to me this week.



My scale is 1:25.4.  Put more simply, each inch is worth one millimeter.
