Our 13 x 3 square foot garden is mostly in shade, but a few things manage to grow. I'm getting tomatoes, and the snapdragons I planted last year re-seeded themselves with gusto. We are not eating all our own home-grown meals, but the garden does have its benefits.
One Sunday I noticed an obituaries page and a familiar name "Viehweg" at my parents' house. I read it searching for the name of someone I was passingly acquainted with, and to my surprise, found someone I know much better instead. My neighbor was the daughter of the deceased.
So the girls and I wrote her a sympathy card and picked some flowers for her from our garden.
The white flowers in the center come from a carrot I neglected to pull up last season. As a relative of Queen Anne's Lace, it gave us flowers this time around.
