ah, the memories

So, I was sorting stuff out at my b/fs, and was putting the programme that Phil Glenister signed last week into my "fandom" folder, to keep it safe. I started looking through it, and oh the memories it brings back. So many Stargate SG1 cons - drunken, a lot of them, but never mind. Some of the wonderful people I have met. I used to steward at the Wolf Cons, before they got far too pricy for me. Don S Davies, my gorgeous Michael Shanks pics, Tom McBeath - and how he found out the group us that had formed "The Cult of Maybourne" and spent 30 mins just sitting talking to us all, finding out about us, and answering our questions. Chris Judge, and his arse groping... ok the story behind that.

My friend Kaz and I were chaos at cons, we had no shame - we were roomies, and we just caused chaos whereever we went, it was hilarious. We had tickets for the Blackpool con, as stewards of the con before we got first chance at tickets, meaning cocktail party tickets. We got there, nicely dressed up. All the actors were going round the room, and we were chatting to Chris Judge's assistant for the weekend, asking how he was etc. Apparently, Chris was upset cause noone had asked to grope his arse yet. Well. We just looked at each other, and when Chris headed our way, of course, that was our first question. He stopped and looked at us, and went "hmmm, but it would have to be for a good cause". Then called JR Bourne over. Now, JR's niece has CF, and raises a lot of money for research (http://www.beautifulbeginningsyouth.com/). Anyway, JR comes over to us - climbing over tables on the way - yeah you can imagine. So they hatch this idea of auctioning off a grope of Chris' arse for charity over the weekend. We go off, thinking nothing more of it. Sunday comes, and we are on duty on the doors when suddenly during one of the talks Chris bounds on stage and offers up an arse grope to the highest bidder. So then JR comes up, does the same, as does Garwin Sandford (who informed us he was commando just for the occasion)... all in all, we raise over £1500 towards CF research - just for an offhand comment. Both Kaz and I got a lot of hugs for that. So, jaceybatts arse shots are nothing new!

Gary Jones, and his amazing William Shatner impersonation which took the con by storm (yeah, ok that was me who brought that up) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0470099/. And other, non-stargate related signatories - the late James Doohan, on one of his last public appearances, Walter Keonig, Norman Lovett (Holly!), Colin Cunningham (truly lovely man), Robert Picardo, at an event on my birthday where he sang at me...

If nothing else, Life on Mars fandom is relatively cheap!
