At first, Sam was worried that Dean couldn't tell him apart from some random schmoe. He'd mulled over it for hours after the incident as they drove to a new town, somewhere far away from witchcraft-practicing school kids. He'd opened his mouth to ask Dean once or twice, but the words got lodged in his throat. Dean seemed completely content to slide back into a state of normalcy, and Sam, though his mind teemed with questions, was back to being in his normal, not-98 pound body. That was what truly mattered.

At first, Sam thought Dean might have preferred Gary over him. Gary liked blaring cock-rock at obscene volumes; liked bacon cheeseburgers with eggs on top; liked picking up random hot women in bars; and he even, according to Dean, said things like "sweet!" and "totally awesome!"

Things that Sam most definitely did not do, say, or eat. The kid almost sounded like a clone of Dean; that is, if Dean had gotten straight A's in school and was close to being a full-on chemistry genius. So, Sam was worried. Rightfully so, sort of. He thought maybe he should eat a cheeseburger, just to prove that he's still a better brother than Gary could have ever been.

Later, though, when Sam and Dean get to a new hotel off the interstate, Sam finds he doesn't have to be worried. They get in the door and before Sam can toss his duffle to the bed he's claiming, Dean is on top of him, pushing him into the door to close it.

Sam's yelp of surprise barely gets past his lips before Dean's mouth is on his, swallowing it up. Sam shudders, turning to lava already in the wake of it. He lets Dean's tongue trace the contours of his mouth, does it back just the same, and when Dean pulls away, Sam knows. Knows how Dean finally figured out that Sam wasn't really Sam.

Sam grins with the thought of it. "I -- he -- rejected you, didn't I? Freaked out a little?"

"Yeah, hurt my feelings real bad," Dean says, and for a moment, he looks like he's actually upset about it. Then he adds with a grin, "Now you get to make up for it."

Sam really can't decline so open an invitation, so he takes it. Later, he'll wonder why he was even concerned at all.
