It's been a bit busy lately. I've been working some crazy overtime to get a little extra spending cash for Europe, and it conveniently gives me something to do since Steve's been out of town on the road a lot for work. His calling to gloat that it was 80 in Miami last weekend as I was snuggled up in fleece, flannel, and an afghan with some hot cocoa did not please me much, either! But anyway, it should tell you something that this week, my regular 60 hour week, is actually my lightest workweek from the beginning of Nov til I leave for Paris on the 26th. Oy.
At least I've got a good farrier who's willing to work with the crazy schedule. She's doing Cally on Wednesday, and hopefully my darling will not manage to get a shoe sucked off in the new-found mud between now and the time I return home, because so help me, Ms. Trainer is getting on her and working her while I'm away. (Yes, she's already living in bell boots.) It's been cold and damp enough lately that they actually had to put her sheet on, and she does look rather more attractive in purple than you'd expect for a redhead. And it makes her much easier to spot way out in the pasture, so I know which direction to crinkle the peppermint wrapper.
Uh, other things...National Gallery exhibits mentioned last time were good, though the wait on the Hopper stuff was ridiculous. Actually, I found the Turner exhibit better, and I think Steve did, too. Finally started digging back into the Einstein bio, so hopefully I'll actually get some of that read before vacay, because it's not going along with me. I picked up Emma and Therese Raquin, as one or both of those are much more luggage-sized, along with the crossword books for S and I to do together. Yeah, we're nerdy like that.
Also nerdy but highly enjoyable, and useful, is freerice.com. I believe
vietcong may have posted it in her journal (I know it was on her Facebook), and it's a bit addictive. Go, play, feed hungry people.
Did I mention I got confirmation back from the Vatican on the Scavi tour? I'm rather excited about that in a very history-geeky sort of way, because really, I don't care so much about St. Peter, but I do enjoy the idea of a small group tour of catacombs. Also, much of the ancient stuff--aside from the Colosseum--is free. Lots of time wandering through the Forums, I'm sensing. The itinerary there is much more nebulous than the one for Paris. That's pretty much down, and Metro and museum passes are ready to go. Now if only my flight out had been tonight instead of two weeks from now...
