Even though it was at a big forward trot and reasonably well behaved canter, getting to go down the stretch at Laurel on MD Million day may be quite possibly the most fun thing I have ever done on a horse. Well, OK, it was really letting them loose a little coming back up the stretch after we'd finished our "being good transitioned to new careers former racehorses" but, still.
It was freaking AMAZING. And my horse, way more concerned with eating weeds and apples and
modeling her lovely fancy Quillin halter than anything else going on, like silly horses running races. Don't they know there are apples to be had? She's
perfectly happy living the pampered life, and shows no sign that her damsire won the Derby, or that her sire won close to $2M on the turf, unless speed is measured in the time it takes to scarf down bits of candy corn.
Europe trip planning continues, after a brief respite for the excitement of MD Million weekend, and the requisite pony-prep that goes along with it. The Vatican returned my email to tell me we get to go on the tour of the Excavations under the basilica, so that ought to totally rock it, and be way cooler to tell people about that just seeing the Sistine Chapel.
