Home Remedy for Hiccups

I was really thirsty while exercising today, so I drank this huge glass of water and found myself struck by hiccups. I wanted to get rid of them quickly, so I could resume my workout before dinner, but nothing worked. Well, I tried holding my breath. And lying down (that makes it less painful).

In the end, I decided to use my old trick of drinking water upside down. You just bend over a glass of water on the floor, then place the top rim of the glass to your upper lip, and tilt forward.

Normally, I do this with a straw, but I've done it without before. It works if you drink enough water. So I filled up a glass full of water and began, since I was too lazy to use a straw.

I began to pour water down (up?) my throat, but it was only pouring - not swallowing. I wasn't paying attention and forgot to close off my trachea and nasal passages! So, after a quick tip of water, I felt my nostrils fill. Yeah, yuck. I felt like I was drowning momentarily. So, I got the water out of my nose after blowing it multiple times - quite painfully I might add.

But the hiccups went away in a snap. How does clogging one's nose stop an irrtation in your diaphragm? We may never know. O__o;

So, yeah, I feel [more] stupid now. XD What are your cures for hiccups? I've heard of eating a teaspoon of sugar or honey, but it has never worked for me.

I also finished two Darren Shan books and halfway through another Alex Rider. Also looking at the Darren Shan manga... Why are they so addicting?
