Here's a long summary of what happened at the zoo with
neneno! It was my first time actually meeting somebody from online, aside from simple greetings at cons. I remember the oddest details too. My sister thinks my memory is photographic or something. XD
So, after I got off the train, there was something on my neck, so I brushed it off, and IT BIT ME. Right on the joint of my left index finger, on the palm side of my hand. It hurt like heck! The bug fell on the floor. It almost looked like a pillbug, but I didn't want to squish it with my nice shoes. XD How come I always get bit indoors? In the past, I've gone on many hikes and outdoor events, and my first bee sting happened in a hotel room! This summer, I get bit just grabbing the newspaper in the morning.
Ironic, since the other day, I was checking the weather and insect reports online and it said that the weather would be great and insects mild. At the beginning of the week, the weather was really random. Hail, heavy rain, bright sunshine, all within a matter of an hour at times. I contemplated checking first aid for some medication, but decided against it. My finger turned red and swelled a bit. But that didn't ruin my day! :D Although it did make it awkward looking everytime I tried to point at something interesting.
I bouth two tickets before meeting
neneno. Luckily, she was early too. The second I mentioned "Dinosaurs" she was off to the Prehistoric section of the zoo. Unfortunately, the dinosaurs weren't real, haha. Lots of twists and turns, and places where climbing was prohibited due to a sign showing a kid climbing and an "X" through it. So we figured we could climb since we weren't kids. But we didn't.
There was also a cave full of grafitti.
Seriously, those dinosaurs were coloured very strangely sometimes.
Camels look fun to ride. Their humps look so jiggly!
That's a semi-flat elephant picture. XD Too bad the stingray exhibit was closed. Afterall, a couple months ago, about 38 out of 40 stingrays mysteriously died. D: What a loss.
The tiger exhibit was cool, 'cus we got to see them up-close. There were a few of them, and they would mirror each other on opposite sides of the cage. Sooyun called it "forbidden love." And yes, she insisted I "Elizabethed" her face, haha.
A little train full of little kids passed by. If I could fit comfortably in that train, I'd ride it too!
There was a bird food dispenser near one of the exhibits and Sooyun bought a handful of bird seeds to feed the birds. She gave some to a little kid that wanted some too, aw.... And stuffed the rest in her pocket for a snack later.
We were just in time to catch the Elephant Show, although, it was more of an information session than a show. The guy told us about how violent elephants were when ready to have babies, and how much poop they make daily. The poop is used for fertilizer across the city, and in Asia, poop can be used to make paper!
They were selling poo paper notebooks and stacks, but they weren't cheap. So we took free sample sheets. XD
Sooyun said it would be fun to work at a zoo, but after the elephant sessions, she decided to work with small animals that don't poop much.
Piranhas! Wouldn't it be cool to see them feed the piranhas?
It's a little known fact that I can speak Turkish. We couldn't get the turkey to turn around, and since Sooyun wasn't fluent, I "gobbled" at it to make it turn around. XDDD
I had no idea that Sooyun liked snakes and reptiles. But she has an inner fear of them. This one was sleeping and had bugs crawling all over it. You can see my shoes in the reflection.
We found the anteater exhibits, but they were empty! We had to satisfy Sooyun's love of anteaters. When we found them inside, they were sleeping in the baskets, so we couldn't see their faces.
We missed a lot of the signs too. One said "This animal is no longer in this exhibit" and we kept searching for the animal until someone pointed out the sign. How could we miss it? It was pretty big!
The rainforest room was so hot, hotter than outside! The kids everywhere crowded the gorilla exhibit. Initially, I thought the black thing in the middle was a pile of poop, but it was actually the baby gorilla! lol
Look what we found at the gift shop! If anyone remembers,
neneno posted an entry where she wondered if moose droppings was a health food, so we were excited to see these. One said "Mosquito Eggs" on it too, and it was all mushy...
Nice view of the giraffes. The new baby one came out briefly, but I couldn't get a nice shot.
For some reason, we passed the ostriches and couldn't find them. They were huge, and in plain sight! Don't they look like brooms? Must've moved after we passed their exhibit. Also found more birds for Sooyun to attempt to feed. I told her she needed to learn bird calls, because a little boy came over making sounds to attract the birds.
We sat down for a late lunch and shared a poutine. I mean, you can't come to Canada and not have poutine, right? We each also had a Tsuna tuna salad sandwich.
By the way, how long can a conversation go, if the only phrases one knows are:
"Hello."
"Goodbye."
"You smell."
"F You."
Not long, I would imagine.
Also, make sure to keep sugar and sauce packages away from Sooyun, she keeps a stash of them in her purse and must restock every now and then.
Doesn't that flower look weird? We went to the observatory afterwards, since we passed it on the way to the rainforest. How can we miss so many big things? We saw papaya, Venus fly traps, butterflies and people in high-heels and ties. Why? There was a wedding going on in the back!
We tried to leave through the entrance, but the security guard made us turn around and go through the exit, which we couldn't find! We were tarpped! After helping a lady in a wheelchair, we found the way out.
At the other gift shop, we found hand puppets of animals that made sounds. Most of them were out of battery life. We wanted to know what the giraffe one sounded like! There were anteater plushies too, but they were big and expensive. And native answer charms! You ask a question, carry it around the whole day, and the next day, you know thw answer! Sooyun said "That means I can't use it to cheat on tests." I told her that the people who made it were smart and knew people would try to cheat.
If you had a lightsaber, could you take on a grizzly bear? How about two bears? Just random questions for thought.
There were these two kids that were chucking rocks at the birds, so Sooyun told them to stop. They were good children and did just that.
More photos of us! As you can see, my hand is turning red. :D I didn't even notice until I saw this photo. There was also this survey about the zoo that was never-ending. It took so long to complete! It was a trap, I tell you!
I swear, Sooyun had an everlasting supply of bird seed in her pocket. She would feed some birds, then pull out another handful, and another! The dispenser didn't give her that many, did it? The ducks didn't seem to enjoy it though. I can't speak Duck as well as I speak Turkey, but we tried anyways. XD
I got a mosquito bite too. The first and only one of the day. Surprising, since all the bugs were following me all day. I was like Sooyun's mosquito lamp that zaps bugs or something.
We decided one of the best scams was to open a zoo, with only a few animals and empty exhibits. Because, we found lots of exhibits where the animals were removed or we couldn't find them. That way, we make money from foolish people who want to see the non-existant animals. Another gerat scam is Gaia Online. I mean, people pay money for pixels on their avatar? And the supply of pixel clothing never runs out? Brilliant!
I was playing phone tag with my parents as Sooyun bought maple candies. My mom would leave a message, I'd phone her, phone my dad, but the line was busy since my mom was talking to him! I'd reach him, hang up, and get a message from my mom! Then phone her back. XD There were paintings done by elephants ont the wall that were hard to interpret as well.
As the zoo was closing, we left for the train station. I gave Sooyun some paper and pencil so she could sketch me something. Took me forever to decide. But she was so fast! Before the train even came, she was pretty much finished! I was about to choke on my maple candy, it was so amazing. I dunno, seeing her draw kinda helped inspire me to lift my art block. That, as well as making
shiansu's birthday present earlier that week.
I showed Sooyun which train to take home, and as her train left, I realized that I still had her elephant poo paper in my backpack, haha. Guess I'll send it to her along with my end of the art trade.
I wish she could have stayed longer, haha. I miss her already. :'D Guess I'll just have to visit her in the States sometime. 8D I guess I've rambled long enough. Thanks for reading!
