Today was by far, one of the crappiest. Even when I lost my dad, that day is now running for it's money. The sad part is, it started off so well. Here's how it happened. I did fencing for about five years, certainly built up my ego. the thing to remember about kendo, is that although it is derived from swordfighting, it is a sport in hitting people with sticks (though practice swords) but not actual swords. and since it is a sport, it might not give that edge often found in swordfighting. no pun intended

karate would probably be a better bet for now, but i have not learned any of it. I study Jinenkan, "Hall of Nature", which is samurai martial arts, including sword-, spear-, staff-, stick-, and knife- fighting, as well as unarmed combat. its pretty intense, and a lot of fun. although i have learned many techniques which would certainly ruin someone's day (in ways ranging from breaking bones to blindness to death), i hope to never have to use any of it.

In fact, i learned a different self-defence class so i could learn how to defend myself within the confines of the law. i'm certain that if i did one of the defences i've learned at Jinenkan, i would mess up an attacker a lot, and legally speaking, thats a messy situation.

so martial arts is not entirely about learning how to kick ass anymore, but its about being sharper on the inside, getting that edge.
