[NVC Day 27] -- [Open Office] -- [Open to All]

Jun 03, 2010 09:25

With the sentencing over, the Enterprise would soon be leaving Sha'Kwai and returning to its original mission. By this point, Jim was ready for it. He wanted off the planet, his wanderlust getting the better of it. It was the longest stretch of time he had spent in once place minus his years at the Academy - always moving, always traveling, wanting ( Read more... )

Scotty had work to be done before departure, and the Captain's signature needed to be on these PADDs before departure. So, he did what anybody else would do and visited the Captain's office.

"Hello Hello?"

It was amazing to even see his Engineer down on planet. Jim was under the amusing assumption that being able to work on the Enterprise with full privileges of a space dock and no worries about needing a system that the engineer was working on would be considered Scotty's vacation. He had a feeling he was right, too.

"Come have a seat, Scotty," Jim said cheerfully. He nudged the other chair with the tip of his foot. However unhappy he had been about the trial's outcome, he refused to let it affect this. It was his crew, and they would be leaving soon. A mixture of work and relaxation he could deal with.

Scotty sat, rather uncomfortably considering. He would be rather be on the ship, but things sometimes did not go according to plan. "Capitan. These need signing, sir." He offered the PADDs with a smile. "I suppose Congratulations about the trial results are in order."

"I don't know if I'd go as far as congratulations," Jim murmured as he took the PADDs, reading the top one, "definitely didn't turn out like I'd hoped." His brows furrowed as he waded through the wording on some things, but tugged out a stylus and signed it before turning his attentions to the next one. "How's our Lady looking?" Careful to not say 'my' to his chief engineer. He liked his showers staying hot and his replicator functional.

"I'm sorry." Scotty shrugged and got to the best part of his job, talking about the beauty and the wonder of the ship they called home. "When I left, she was quite possibly the bestest, shiniest ship in the fleet, and she better like it that way, for she'll stay that way, as long as I get a say. The magnetic spatial array got replaced and rebooted..." Nobody could say that Scotty looked unhappy when he spoke about the ship and his five minute long ramble about all the work he did on her and all the theoretical nitty gritty bits of the ship. "...and then T'tang and Sonak kicked me off our lovely lady because they said I was being too illogical. The end."

Jim ended up laughing by the end of it, lips spread wide in a huge grin. "You? Illogical?? Perish the thought!" He couldn't help but tease, grinning even more.

"Sounds like you got a lot done in a month. I can't wait to go through and see all of the changes you made." And he would, because he wanted to know how every inch of his ship worked, the beautiful lay of her insides and components.

"Apparently, I was 'Doing what you humans would call hovering'." Scotty shrugged. "Oh, it's beautiful, indeed. And our wonderful woman got plenty of beauty rest and she's itching to get out in space again."

Jim knew instantly that was exactly what Scotty had been doing. "Somehow, I'm less than surprised they kicked you out then." He leaned back and looked upwards, thinking. "She's not the only one itching to get out there again."

That reminded him... "Bones mentioned something about some missing supplies. I thought we were only getting supplies... heard anything about it? Missing anything yourself?"

"Oh, Keenser said he was surprised they took so long to give me the boot, the bastard." Scotty scratched his head in confusion. "I haven't heard a thing. We're not missing as much as a single sprocket nor as much as a spare idler, as far as I know." The idea that somebody stole anything from the Enterprise was very alarming.

Jim waved a hand. "Don't worry about it. It might be a miscount, or we just need to locate them. Just figured I'd ask as you deal with all the supplies for Engineering." Somehow, the part about Keenser didn't surprise him. Sarcastic little tree-man.

"We'll issue a recount of our supplies, of course. I'm as fallible as anybody else, could see two bushings where there was only one. I don't see why anybody would do such a thing as steal..." Scotty was of course not happy, and frankly was this close to flying into a rage. "These medical supplies. Were they valuable?"

It took Jim a second to realize how Scotty had figured out that quick that they were medical supplies, and smiled at his own slow mind that afternoon before shaking his head. "Nothing really. If someone went so far as to steal it, Bones said it was all pretty worthless. They bypassed crates of drugs and equipment for mostly junk. Probably no more than a thousand credits worth of stuff. Hoping though it was just a miscount, but we're going to have to do a full supplies check before we leave."

"I don't know whether to be flattered that, if it was stolen, they stole junk, or flattered." Scotty mused for a moment.

"We'll know after a recount," Jim said flatly. "Won't be easy with everyone going back on board, and supplies flooding the ship but we'll manage."

"Aye, sir. We always do." Scotty smiled and quietly gathered up his belongings and went, thinking about ways to improve supply counts in Engineering. It would be presumptuous to think about another department, after all, but if there outside applications to say, Sickbay or Science, Scotty would not be opposed.
