It hadn't been an easy decision to leave Bones behind, to go out on some wild goose chase based on a feeling he had. Following the meeting with Nero and a much more agreeable visit with an alternate version of Joanna McCoy, Spock's meditation cycle was distinctly disrupted. He suspected that his meetings with Joanna and Nero had something to do with those difficulties, but the pull that served to distract him from his meditation efforts could not be blamed on those meetings alone ( ... )

"I'll take it you're surprised, then," Jim said in return, but he felt the tightness in his chest flare up. He gave a little smirk, knowing that he had bruises still visible on his body - wrist, face, thighs, hips, back.

"...Can I come in?" A hint of sarcasm, but under it, mostly unknown, was a hint of something like fear.

"I would never deny you access to my home, Jim," Spock answered. He stepped back to allow Jim access, and folded his hands behind his back.

The marks didn't particularly please him, but confronting Jim Kirk directly had rarely been a successful effort. "Is there anything I can offer you? Food, drink, medical attention?"

Jim stepped inside, and almost mis-stepped at that rather direct comment about medical attention. He looked at Spock with wide eyes for a moment, blinked, then just... let out a small laugh. "...how about we sit down somewhere, and I'll explain?" There was a lot he needed to ask of Spock, a lot he didn't know how to explain at all.
