Kirk had received a message from the bridge as he raced towards Bones' office with Anna. It was the results of not only the final geological scans of the planet below, but... something even more important ( Read more... )

George blinked as he narrowed in on the frequency in use by the planet below. Singing? Okay...that was unusual. Not the weirdest he'd ever come across but close... He started to record it as he let the person in conn know they had contact.

"Contact?" Spock prompted and engaged the controls on the central chair. The incoming feed routed through the main speakers on bridge and Spock regarded the ceiling with an arched brow. "Fascinating."

Spock rose from the chair and moved to the vacant Science station. The readings were both intriguing and encouraging and Spock immediately ported them out to her personal PADD.

"Issue a notification to Captain Kirk," Spock ordered casually and turned to regard the man at the Communications console. "Are you capable of deciphering this linguistic structure and responding in kind?"

Although it wasn't technically her shift, Nyota found herself drifting closer and closer to the Bridge, desperate to get back to work. The past few days had been filled with people telling her not to strain herself, to take a day or two off to recover. From what, a broken arm? She'd had far worse, and would again. But the backlog of work and reports she had to complete had made her concede defeat and take the half shifts.

Throwing caution to the wind and deciding that if whoever had the conn didn't want her around could dismiss her themselves, she stepped into the turbolift and continued the one flight up to the Bridge. The first thing she heard was an odd-- wait, was that singing? She knew the Enterprise was doing scans of the planet below, but contact ( ... )

Spock arched a brow as the woman dismissed the blonde man who'd been seated there prior. Her displacement of the officer on duty indicated a familiarity with the station, her rank was delineated on her collar. Lieutenant.

"Lieutenant Uhura, I presume?" Spock prompted and the sounds shifted through a minor fall before lifting and repeating sequence. Spock's distraction from the woman brought her back on task and she folded her hands behind her back. "Can you decipher this linguistic structure and respond in kind?"
