Exploring the Enterprise in furry form

He'd plotted very very carefully. His human didn't go out much, but he'd managed to time the door, so he'd be able to right next to his human and get out of the blasted room. He'd already explored the entire room. It was time to move on to newer, and more interesting places to explore. He wondered where his posse of cats went. That should be his ( Read more... )

George finally found the place he'd been before. It wasn't very interesting in the area he'd been but there was a dark room just off to the side he found once he'd wandered a little. There was a chair inside that just called to him. Oh, this was exactly the right napping place. Warm and just the right shape. It smelled good. He kneaded it.

Bones wandered in, not sure where he'd left that regen unit he'd been trying to re-modulate. About to flop into his chair, he stopped himself just as his eyes lit upon the ball of orange fur napping in his chair. "Wha-"

Then he remembered and recognized the invader. "Hey George," he said, rubbing the kitten's head with one finger. "What are you doing here?"

George opened his eyes up sleepily. Someone was destroying his sleep. He sniffed at it curiously then gave a little lick. Tasted funny. He yawned and stretched slowly.

Cat spit. Joy. Bones sighed, then lifted the fuzzball up and placed him back on his lap after he sat down on his chair, wondering to himself how furry his ass was going to be. "You comin' by to visit me, George?" he asked, messing with the kitten's ears.

George stared at Bones, and then mewled, batting at his hand lightly, claws not drawn.

"Hey, look at you. Gotta admit, nothin's ever just normal around you," Bones told him, scratching lightly behind George's ear as he looked down and examined the tiny paw. "You are fucking adorable right now, you know that?"

Bones prayed that George would not remember this conversation.

Well yes, of course he was. He was a cat. Cats were made of awesome. He pushed at Bones hand more insistently. More petting, less playing with his paws.

Cats were also made of fur and teeth and claws, and this little orange puffball had lots of all three. "Hey," Bones said to the kitty, as he fiddled with his nose. "Check this out."

Opening a desk drawer, he pulled out a long string with a feather on the end. "Sometimes Yontaya plays with this," he told the cat, waving the feather in his face.

George rolled over onto his back and attacked the evil string with the feather. It must DIE. He chirped at it as he batted at it, trying to catch it. Just a little...there. He caught it in his paws and brought it down to his mouth where he rolled back over to jump off Bones' lap and go bury it somewhere.

Bones held tight to the string, pulling it slightly to watch George turn and try and catch it. "You know, George, I gotta tell you... things are going pretty good with Jim and me. Better than I ever expected."

He put George on the floor and waved the feather over his head. "Sorta wish I "could talk to you 'bout this, but..." he sighed. "Things got complicated over on Sha'Kwai."

George mewled at the string and batted at it a while longer before losing interest and climbing back up into Bone's lap again, snuggling down comfortably.

"Aww, aren't you a sweet thing," Bones told him, settling back in his chair and stroking the kitten's back. Listening to the cat rumble reminded him of being young, playing with one of the barn cats on his grandparents' land. "Jim would never let me keep a cat," he sighed, not sure where that came from. "A dog maybe, when we finally settle down. Who knows when that'll be, but still."

Bones got quiet, wondered where they would settle. He tried to picture himself living on Risa, putting down roots on that pleasure planet. The idea made him laugh. "Guess they'll be a couple places we could live. Maybe somewhere on Earth, if he wanted."

He rubbed George's nose. "I am imagine you and the Admiral will end up back on Earth, got that ranch somewhere, right?"

George wrinkled his nose at the nose touch. That much smell up close was too much, even if the human smelled nice and interesting. He rolled over onto his back. That seemed to make the females happy.

"Ooh, someone wants a belly rub," Bones grinned, his fingertips lightly grazing the soft fur. "Jim likes this, too," he said, laughing to himself. "Makes him purr just like that."

George gently caught the hand between his paws and purred contentedly. This was what cats had aspired too, when they sought out humans to make theirs. Bellyrubs. He wondered if this one had the good tastiing liquid too.

"Oh, there's a good kitty," McCoy let his fingers move slowly over the tummy area, a smile tugging at his lips at the leisurely stretch of the cat in response. "You know what's sort of funny? You don't like the idea of pets on board starships, and yet here you are..." Bones frowned a bit. "Well, maybe not funny. But it is something strange."
