Well both interviews went rather well today but I have not been officially offered a job yet. Both places suggested that I got it though.
The animal hospital said they just needed to decide what specific positions to offer the people they have chosen and that I would know in the next couple of days. I think I would enjoy working there, and the perks would be great for my own pets.
The animal facility at BC Cancer research has 10 000 cages of mice in it! TEN THOUSAND. I had no idea it was at that scale. The 3 women interviewing me giggled and said "it's the stuff nightmares are made of". Luckily I am not at all afraid of rodents. I could imagine some people being a little creeped out by a room full of that many mice. It was a great interview and we laughed a lot. They asked really hard questions though. Lots of questions about euthanasia and other tough stuff. One of the questions was "Would you break the law for something you really believed in?" Geez. I said I couldn't be sure unless faced with the actual situation, but that I hadn't so far :) They seemed pleased with that. I wonder if they are worried that I will sabotage the research facility?
Cleaning mouse cages will probably not be as interesting as working at the animal hospital, but I think it will pay way more and possibly have room for advancement. It may be a hard decision if I get both jobs. But I think things will be clear when I actually have a decision to make.
