At first I thought this was going to be easy... watching my littlest one's face on the 4th of July as we watched fireworks.
Then I realized it was actually more mundane than that. The other day at his play group, I watched his face as he explored sand for the first time. Sitting on the shady sidewalk on the edge of the playground, he leaned forward and put his fingers in the sand, and then pulled them towards him. Repeating this a few times, he then moved on to grabbing handfuls of the sand and rubbing it between his fingers. Opening and closing his hands, he watched as the sand fell out, losing it in the grains already on the playground. Soon he was feeling brave, and lunging forward, feeling the coarse gritty texture as his hands slid through it. By the time we went home, he'd found little sticks and used them to dig in the sand, rubbed his bare feet back and forth in it, and in general had an absolutely wonderful time - if the expression on his face was any indication - playing with the sand.
It's a minor thing really, but it was definitely the best thing I've seen this month.
