I went and watched Transformers 2:Revenge of the Fallen yesterday. Apart from the action sequences, it was pretty average. I wasn’t that satisfied. I have already posted about this in my Wordpress, but just to summarize , here are my thoughts about the movie in bullet form, complete with some fangirling and some whining.
• Bumbleebee is made of awesome.
• The Optimus Prime versus Megatron,Starscream and Blackout fight sequence has to be the best part of the movie.
• The Twins are annoying.
• If Bay wanted to have some Autobot twins in the movie, why didn’t he go for the canon twins and put Sunstreaker with Sdeswipe? And speaking of Sideswipe, he is no longer a Lambo. He is still made of awesome as a Chevy though.
• Not enough Starscream. He is annoying, I know, but I love him still.
• We finally get a female Autobot and she’s demoted to a Ducati who didn’t really get to show how awesome she is and who eventually died in the end. Poor Arcee.
• What the heck happened to Soundwave? 0_0
• Too many sex jokes/references to sex, they’re no longer funny.
• No significant Autobot interactions at all. Does movie!Prime even talk to the Autobots aside from telling them to move out or transform?
• Devastator has balls? 0_0
• I wish the movie had Red Alert and /or Hot Shot.
• Thank god it’s my friend who paid for the tickets. Honestly, 120 Php is too much for this movie. As a whole, it wasn’t that mind-blowing.
Now from Transformers, I move to Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance. I haven’t seen the actual movie yet actually, so I’m basing these thoughts mainly on the reviews and the detailed summaries I’ve seen online.
I know it’s too early to tell, and things could still change, but just basing from the first two movies, it seems the Rebuild is leaning more towards the Shinji/Rei angle. As a long-time member of Team Shinji/Asuka, I am disappointed, not really on the fact that there’s more focus on Shinji/Rei (because I admit this ship as well as Shinj/Asuka, Shinji/Kaworu and even Shinji/Misato are all implicitly canon in the original series.) , but because Shinji/Asuka has been downplayed for its sake. It should have been more balanced. I didn’t like that the Rebuild left out Shinji and Asuka’s synchronization training which actually played a great part in both character’s development. Then again, you can’t really cram everything in a 90-minute movie right? Some things have to be sacrificed.
But what the hell happened to Asuka? I understand Rebuild does not necessarily follow the original series, but I thought the changes would only involve additional scenes, additional characters, modified events, and in Asuka’s case, a new last name. From what I’ve discovered, Rebuild has downplayed Asuka’s character and now she’s acting like just the typical tsundere who’s in love with Shinji, and not the messed up, psycho-bitch I came to love. I should be happy that her feelings for Shinji are now much clearer, but it’s at the expense of her character and frankly, I love Asuka more than I love the Shinji/Asuka ship. I’m fine with regular tsundere!Asuka if it’s from spin-off universes like Puchi Eva, Angelic Days, Gakuen Datenroku and Shinji Ikari Raising Project. But coming from Hideaki Anno himself? Dude, I didn’t expect that when you changed her last name, you’d change her personality as well.
But some people have some very interesting theories about Asuka in 3.0. In 2.0, she was badly injured during her fight with Bardiel which left her comatose and in ICU. In 3.0, she’s shown to have one-patch over one eye just like her End of Evangelion self. Some are speculating that Asuka Langley Shikinami will turn into Asuka Langley Sohryu and go psycho. Cool. I want that Asuka.
But really, I shouldn’t be talking or giving opinions about Eva 2.0. Watch the film first, self. Watch the film.
On a fully unrelated note, chapter 30 of Tegamibachi is already up.
