Amazing Talent
also known as Epic Fail...
I stopped today to get gas quick on my way home, and obviously paying no attention whatsoever to what I was doing, managed to stick my credit card into the receipt printing slot. So far that I couldn't grab it back out. I'm talented. The sympathetic young lady working at the station tried to help with her smaller fingers, but unfortunately only succeeded in pushing it in further. So she stuck an "out of order" sign on the pump while I drove home (after getting some gas with a debit card) and grabbed needle-nose pliers. Back at the station with the plier I could manage to grab the edge of the card... but apparently it was wedged into the paper feed mechanism, and no amount of pulling would budge it (though I did manage to chew up the edge of the card pretty bad in the process).
Continuing the string of misfortune, the lady working was so low on the totem pole that they didn't even entrust her with a phone number for the station, much less any way to do anything at all to the pumps. So the best I could do was leave my contact info, and she said they'd call someone later who could hopefully make it in tomorrow to open the pump. This was less than ideal, as I'm leaving for a con tomorrow morning and planning to be gone all weekend, but there was nothing else to be done.
Fortunately, I finally managed to catch a break, and it turned out the evening shift did have the necessary key, so they called me back after dinner and I got my card. No idea whether it still actually works, but at least I don't have to go through the hassle of reporting it lost.
