New Shinies on the Horizon

So I'm still slowly playing FFXIII while most other people I know are wrapping it up; I'll maybe talk about that later. I've also been playing FFI (GBA Dawn of Souls version) in bits of spare time because I wanted to do a crazy sequence-break run; it's pretty fun.

But hey, I wanna talk about games that don't exist yet. You might have heard of "Super Robot Wars", a long-running franchise from Banpresto that takes giant robots from pretty much every giant robot show ever and puts them in strategy RPGs, often with cute super-deformed graphics. Apparently a while ago they teamed up with From Software, who've made some mecha action games, to make a spin-off series called "Another Century's Episode", which takes the aforementioned mecha train-wreck and puts it in an engine not unlike Zone of Enders.

So I've been saying pretty much forever that I'd love a Macross game with the ZoE engine. Well, they've now announced Another Century's Episode R, coming up on PS3. PS3 games aren't region locked. If it doesn't have way too much text, I see an import in my future. This thing has both the VF-0A from Macross Zero and the VF-25F Messiah from Mac Frontier. Also Zeta Gundam, Crossbone Gundam (!), Destiny Gundam, King Gainer (do the monkey!), the Lancelot from Geass, and a bunch of others. A bunch more pictures here.

Also just announced: The Four Warriors of Light, an adorable-looking FF spin-off for DS, is actually getting translated. I'll probably wait and see what people say about the stripped-down gameplay, but it looks like a fun time.
