The one (perhaps only) nice thing about early DST is there's suddenly a lot of daytime for doing things after work. Like on Wednesday, when
akiko is out at Tai-Chi class in the early evening anyway, giving me just barely enough time to get in a decent bike ride before making dinner. Since they're practically the only decent exercise I get (barring new DDR games), this is a good thing.
Yesterday's ride:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3556852 Wasn't intended to be nearly 8 miles, but those dead-ends in the trailer park off Hwy 10 represent a colossal shortcut failure. Took a wrong turn after the tracks. Speaking of tracks, I'm afraid I can't recommend taking the railroad tracks with a bike as a method of avoiding the annoying traffic on the highway (See the first leg of the trip). I'm not quite stupid enough to actually bike on the tracks (yeah, I would *probably* hear a train behind in enough time to get off, but I'm not gonna bet my life on it), and beside them is mostly too rough for riding, making for a long bike-walk. And let's not even talk about the short open bridge over the creek.
Also talked on the way back to our neighbor who had his house broken into and a bunch of electronics stolen when he went to the grocery store for an hour. Pretty weird for our neighborhood. He thinks someone must have been watching for an opportunity - one possibility is people connected to the dude with drug problems who used to live there. A bit unsettling, but we have a deadbolt (which is pretty much always set because we rarely use the front door - his was latched but not bolted) and an alarm system which we mostly got to have monitored fire protection for the cats, but should work perfectly well for burglaries too.
