Guess who's moved in to my lawn? Again? Yellow jackets. I think this brings them up to a solid one-for-two record on years I've lived here that they've decided to make a new nest under my grass. The minor victory this time is I narrowly managed *not* to get stung in the process of discovering them (which is good, since I seem to be developing an allergy). Though they did stake out my lawn-mower forcing me to abandon the field for half an hour until they calmed down.
Unfortunately they're back on a drainage slope again this time, rendering the "stick a transparent cover over their hole 'til they starve" strategy inoperable. I know a more traditional route is to pour gas down the hole and light it, but given how aggressive they are about defending the nest and the fact that I don't have a bee-keeper outfit, I have no idea how to pull that off without getting stung in the process. Meanwhile, a 15' square area of my lawn is just going un-mowed.
