Some people facing Thanksgiving day alone without a turkey dinner with family would feel bitter and depressed. Yes, its easy to slip into the "no one loves me, everyone hates me" rut when flying solo during the holidays. My work, which I love and have a deep devotion to, requires me to work on holidays when our guests play and enjoy the company of their loved ones. I could spend my time feeling morose, but instead I see this as an opportunity to spread some magic and be in tune with this season of giving. That's right guests, I'm giving you my holiday so yours can be that much more fun and enjoyable. I'm a thankful skipper, even though I can't be lazy and pig out with my relations today. Here's what I'm thankful for:
Family. My goodness, my family. You'd have trouble finding more supportive, unconditionally loving, caring and freakin' awesome folks than those nearest and dearest to me. Seriously. Ready to catch me every time I fall, willing to support and fund my childhood dreams and always down to take six bottles of wine up to the mountains and play Scrabble... my family is at the top of the list.
Friends and fellow Cast. The people you meet on your journey through this life... I'm telling you, I've got a diverse bunch. I'm thankful to know such inspirational, funny, creative and spontaneously wonderful folks on this planet earth, so many of which I spend my time with at that 'happiest place on earth' nearly every day. I hope they are just as thankful to have me in their lives as I am them.
Location, location, location. I'm thankful to live in Southern California where the weather is mild, the people are relaxed and groovy and there's always something wonderful and interesting to do. I've got Disneyland, the beach, LA, the central coast, the desert, the mountains, lots of museums and so much more right here at my finger tips. Its my little slice of paradise, no matter what the cynics say.
And in closing, a Thanksgiving prayer to the Jungle Monster:
Our monster, who art in the Jungle, feared be thy wrath
thy kingdom come, thy will be done on the dock as it is in the Jungle
Give us this day our Real Deal,
and forgive us our botched punch lines,
as we forgive those who ruin our jokes for us;
and lead us not into six shots,
but deliver us from pop tart boats
for thine is the Jungle, the Boathouse and Adventureland forever, Amen.
