Life and Death in the Nexus

A bitch of a thing about the Nexus, or so I've found: what constitutes as entertainment for some folks counts as real life for others. The moments that jerk us around, or make us laugh, or make us scream are real, life-defining moments for some people, and no amount of entertainment perusal will ever make those moments as real for the reader or viewer or player as for the person him or herself.

Which is why I'm finding myself straining REALLY, REALLY hard not to think of Spider-Man's death as a temporary thing. I mean, from a Marvel perspective, it tends to be exactly the sort of tear-jerking moment that will later be nullified as they find some half-assed way to bring him back from the dead. At the same time, I'm definitely viewing a real tragedy, with people left behind and a massive amount of fallout.

Am I insensitive? Probably. I don't know the guy beyond the pages of a comic book. But I at least have some understanding of what's going on, and can't help but wonder if somewhere, out there, somebody will regard the tragedies that happen in my life the same way. It's freaky.
