[FIC] Shadows
Posting this real quick before I go to bed. Posting it to tf_rare_pair tonight and will post it other places some time this week (busy, busy week).

Megatron and Optimus believed them loyal, obedient, to their respective causes. Always there by their leader's side, ready to follow any order at a moment's notice, eager to please. They always found it so amusing that they were seen this way. That not even those trained to look beyond the surface noticed what they were doing.
They were not born to follow.
They advised their leaders, guided them in directions they otherwise never would have taken. They controlled the information Megatron and Optimus received, and the information released to the soldiers. It has been this way since before the war started, and it would be this way until one, or both, died.
They were born to lead.
The war would never have started if Megatron and Optimus just sat down together and talked instead of using them as intermediaries. Megatron wanted equal rights for miners and low caste citizens. Optimus had been told Megatron wanted to bring down the government and allow the low caste to rule. Optimus wanted peace above all else and would have been willing to negotiate. Megatron believed Optimus was immoveable in his beliefs that lower caste mechs and femmes were nothing more than criminals and lowlifes. It was amusing to watch. And it was all their doing, their manipulation of the facts. They bent the truth and everyone fell in line, like pawns on a chessboard.
Prowl and Soundwave weren't born to follow. They were born to lead.
Even if only from the shadows.
