Mikami Teru, the public prosecutor of Kyoto Prefecture, sighs in utter frustration. His thick black hair looks awful - they can’t even use the cheapest shampoo here, only that disgusting yellow substance - laundry soap, I suppose, Teru cackles bitterly; food, bed-clothes, air, walls, light, everything stinks; frankly, there are more than enough grounds for a big scandal. But Mikami Teru is a proud, independent and well-mannered man. He tidies himself up, drinks some tragically unclean water - naturally, the glass reeks - then dies from cerebral infarction at two o’clock AM sharp, quickly, quietly, without noise, so as not to bother the jailers.
