Well, my journey to Istanbul started at 3pm when I headed out the door. It is 1.30am now and here I am, in a very petite room in the old centre of Istanbul sans baggage.  Damn, my wide headbands were all in there - I have found when I travel to Muslim countries, wearing these is sensible.  They aren't a full headscarf, but do give a nod to the customs of the country (which I think is polite) and I believe has the bonus effect of less hassling by strangers.  Maybe I am just kidding myself but in the UAE the one day that I didn't wear my headband was the day that the taxi driver pulled out the packet of condoms, lube and spare shirt from his glovebox and asked if he could stay the night!  Maybe it was just coincidence, but none-the-less I will, as much as I can, continue the habit.

So tomorrow morning will be less touristing than I would otherwise have enjoyed, and more shopping for clean undies.  It also means I will be staying in the hotel for one more night than I had booked, so I could have an address to which the bag can be delivered.
