First day of Tekkoshocon is over! Lesse... I got there about two and hung around the artist alley, visited the dealer room, and bought some super cute Prince of Tennis stuff!
I saw the first couple episodes of Shuffle at a screening where Carrie Savage, one of the voice actors and director of the first volume, was doing a commentary and Q&A. Cute series and apparently lots of fan service later on because the series in based on a hentai video game. You can kinda tell by the many cute girls that are interested in the normal boy. Vic does the voice of the King of the Demon realm! It was really funny.
Then saw the AMVs... lots of good ones in comedy and upbeat... not so much in the other categories. Romance was a disappointment... none of the vids for that really impressed me.
Hung around artist alley some more at Ari's booth and witnessed probably the worst con drama in the history of con drama. The artists had signed a petition requesting longer hours for the room. It closed an hour before the dealer room and the artists wanted the traffic from that to come to them and increase their sales. Staff agreed, but somehow communication got screwed up to the guy in charge of... something to do with the artists. He was a pissed-off egomaniac who came into the room and yelled at everyone and asked all the PAYING CUSTOMERS to leave so he could talk to the artists. I left, but from the upset conversations I heard after we were allowed to re-enter the room, he had blown a gasket at them and called them selfish children and pretty much belittled the hell out of all the artists there. Lots of shouting and many girls in there were brought to tears.
Something about not having enough staff to keep the rooms open and a bunch of shit, mostly because he hadn't been informed of the change, which the CON-CHAIR had okayed. The staff could have said no and closed the artist alley at the scheduled time, but keeping it open was okay by them. And really, how many staff do you need to stand at the door to check badges?
SOOOOOOOO many people were incensed and furious over the whole incident. A few of the artists probably won't come back tomorrow and many won't be back next year. A huge con drama blowup over some guy's ego getting bruised over a request for the artists to stay longer. And the artists were PAYING TO BE THERE! They had to register and reserve the tables and everything. What a HUGE fuck-up on the part of the con. There are a lot of angry, unhappy con-goers out there and their stories about this are going to spread. I'm angry on behalf of the artists, but I'm staying out of it. Think zen. Breath....
After much drama, I wandered over to the second half of the concert. Which was AWESOME and AMAZING and OMGILOVETHISBAND!!! Hsu-Nami is the group. They're an instrumental rock group from New Jersey with Asian inspirations and Jack Hsu, the band's violinist and erhu player, was brilliant! Their music was beautiful, catchy, and upbeat. I bought their debut CD (it only came out in November) and went to the impromptu Q&A and autograph sighing that was set up afterwards. All the band members were really good-looking and they had a really funny guy in charge of their sales who signed my CD too! They were all in their early twenties and so cute and open with their instant fangirl and fanboy groupies. It was a lot of fun!
My pics from today are up on
photobucket... I didn't take that many. But there'll be more tomorrow!
Now I'm going to bed. It's 1 am and I'm going back tomorrow morning. Damn Pittsburgh construction!
