Home ambition

So, another thing to add to the list of things to do in the house: add some stair lighting. Our only bathroom is downstairs, and while I usually don't have to traverse the dark passage from the upstairs landing down the dark stairs to take care of nighttime business, Chuck does. Often the landing has just enough ambient light from outside to see by, but the stairs are 90% nigh-invisible in the dark - the fact that you can't really see the edge of the landing is also of concern. While a nightlight in on the landing would be good, frankly some soft stair lighting would be helpful.

At first I thought about installing LED rope lighting under a banister, but then I did some image searching and there are a lot of products one can install on stairs, at near-floor-level, that would do a better job and look classier. Frankly, I'd love to have dull brass or bronze lighting on the stair sides to add some modern lighting with an older finish on it. I keep thinking of Rapture's light fixtures from BioShock - very art deco, a bit steampunk. The house was built in 1930, after all, so art deco is really not out of character!
