I am steadily growing more and more impatient with my Visa credit card company. I have a card through a bank in Maryland - my parents had an account there when we lived in Baltimore, and kept the account when they moved to upstate NY. My father opened up a joint account between us before I went to college, so that I could make charges at school and he could make payments from home in his name. When I moved out I simply had the billing address changed and started making payments myself.
So, I have essentially had this account for about 10 years. I have taken it with me all this time, and NEVER have I had as much trouble with it as I am now. Changing address took a mailed-in form (couldn't do it over the phone!), and when I made a payment for the statement I did not received due to changing addresses, it apparently went into the ether because weeks later the check apparently has not been received. So, I'm writing another one, and in the meantime my account is frozen as delinquent, and gathering interest, and I've probably been charged a late fee.
The main reason I kept this card was because it got such a low interest rate, so on the rare occasions that I needed to carry some level of balance, the extra I paid was minimal. Now I realize that part of that was because of my dad's credit status (really good!), and if I want the account to myself I have to reapply. Also they seem to want me to change my name and all that since the change of address form has my married name on it. UUUGH.
SO MUCH TROUBLE. For something not that great/ Their service has degraded so much in the last few years, and everything is a big plastic hassle now. I'm thinking of just jumping onto Chuck's card (yes, we are 5 years married and do not have shared credit cards) and dumping this one. Even my Dad apparently kicked them to the curb a couple years back for being ridiculously bothersome to deal with.
