Chapter 8.

Jin is scared. He had spotted Yokoyama talking to Kazuya. He knew Matsumoto had him tailed after. He knew it the moment he spotted the expensive luxury car following every street, every curve they drive into the moment they drove into the town for another of their outings. And right now, he was scared shitless. He tapped his fingers furiously bright wallpaper on the wall against him, shading himself from the view behind a tall indoor plant: Fortune. How ironic his situation. He watched as Yokoyama animatedly talked to Kazuya, and he was surprised to see Kazuya replying in a civil manner, almost conversationally.

A little sheen of sweat was starting to form on his forehead. Shit. What was he sweating for? He cursed inwardly, for some reason, he was worried and jumpy. Jin tried to gain his senses and decided to walk over to the table where Kazuya was sitting and get Kazuya away from Yokoyama. He took a few deep breaths before starting with his slow yet courageous steps. Facing Yokoyama is like facing a judge in the court; after all he was Matsumoto’s trusted man.

“I believe my brother isn’t your purpose?” Jin asked Yokoyama, his tone lace with sarcasm and hardness.

Yokoyama looked up and smiled at Jin knowingly. He then stood up and nodded his greeting.

“It was nice talking to you, Kamenashi-kun.” Yokoyama said though his eyes were trained on Jin.

After Yokoyama walked off, Jin sat down on the emptied seat and waited for Kazuya to speak who was fidgeting in his seat.

“Nii-chan,” Kazuya started. His hands played on top of the table, his head bowed. “I want to go home.”

For a week, Jin noticed the changes with Kazuya. The once smiling kid has now returned hiding in his shell. Jin thought Yokoyama must have spilled the beans of who he really is. But why is Kazuya not saying anything at all? Why is he not lashing out, kicking him out of the estate and suing him? He was beyond paranoid that he started going out again just to escape the situation in the estate.

And it was this time that Jinlet his guard down and Mariko took the opportunity.

Kazuya was sickly. As a child, he had to attend several doctors to check on his health. Though his incapacity as a blind person might seem to make others think that he is healthy, in reality he wasn’t. Kazuya is often susceptible to illnesses like colds, flu, coughs, fevers…His immune system is weak and that is why he stays at home.

And the boy had asthma, like his older brother, Kojiro.

One day, Kazuya was up in his room looking out the window. By the sound of a revving engine, he could tell that Jin was going out, again.

Kazuya decided to venture out of his room and without telling anyone decided to spend a day in the orchard. He stayed under his favorite tree, sitting on the newly mowed grass and shading himself from the sun. He thought over the words that Yokoyama-san told him at the café.

He’s fooling you. Do you really know who your brother is? Who he really is? He’s just fooling you, using you and your money. Kojiro’s dead.

“No he isn’t dead. My nii-chan is here.”

Tch. You’re a fool. Not only blind but a fool. Poor you, Kojiro died a long time, we had him disposed.

“You’re a liar.”

What a shame. You’re future is now ruined.

“My future is in my hands, I have complete control.”

Without eyes to see? To judge? Hah! You’re brother is not the real Kojiro. Your brother like I told you is dead. I have evidence, but you won’t live long so it’s better not seeing the evidence, ne. That man who’s pretending to be Kojiro is actually Akanishi Jin.

“Akanishi Jin.”

Yes. And fucking Akanishi Jin owed us a big deal of money which he has to pay. Tell you what; he just got out of prison before setting foot in your life.

“I don’t wanna hear any of your lies. Please leave me alone.”

Maa, I guess it’s hard to convince you now. Seems like he had you wrapped around his finger.

Kazuya’s eyes began to water remembering the words the man told him. He wasn’t sure anymore of what to do, of who to believe. Everything around him seems to be a lie now after Yokoyama’s words rang in his ears. Everyone seemed to be liars now taking their chances of fooling him and using the money he owns. People, to him, seemed to harm him not caring that he was blind and just a boy.

He wanted to see.

He wanted to have eyes and take back the sight that was stolen from him.

He wanted. Wanted.

Tears were now rolling down his cheeks, fat and fast. The confusion and doubt of the person behind his brother’s clouding up his judgment. If only he could see. Just when he had someone he could finally trust and start calling family, the man turned out to be someone else.

He was now sobbing. Voicing out his pained wails, clutching his chest, beating against the trunk, almost screaming. Lies. He’s living in a world of lies. It was agony. And the fact that his brother didn’t say a word to him or asked him what the man had told him seemed only to be a proof of fakeness. His life is a dog eat dog world.

And he cried some more. Pain and sorrow etched in his youthful face. Only eighteen and he felt like the world has turned its back on him.

The once sunny weather shifted its mood as dark and heavy clouds threatened the sky. It was as if nature sympathized with him.

A drop hit Kazuya’s face. Looking up, he could tell it is rain falling down from the sky: falling big and fast. Kazuya continued to tilt his head up, feeling the rain slowly falling before picking up speed.

And he cried more freely than before.

Jin nursed another glass of hard drink. It was still early though but somehow he had to ease the feelings in his heart. He was at loss. Unsure of what to do. His plan is totally ruined the moment he started to take Kazuya out and experience the world outside the estate. The moment Jin intruded Kazuya’s life and bonded with him, he knew, behind the back of his mind, that things will turn against him. Instinct.

He drank another one. Bottom’s up and with a loud thud, slammed the glass on the counter.

Damn.

A sudden emotion crossed him. He had a feeling something was wrong and that he had to go home. But how is he going to face Kazuya? Though blind, he can still feel the blank looks he receives from the boy and makes him feel guilty in an instant. Jin looked out of the window and saw that it had began to rain heavily. The sudden downpour made him stand up. He really had to leave now and go home. For an unknown reason he was worried. He quickly pulled out his wallet, placed some bills on the table and left quickly, ducking under the heavy rain and running straight to the car.

He silently hoped everything is fine back at the estate.

Mariko watched from her room as the rain pounded against the windows. From afar, she could make out a figure in the orchard. She immediately knew who it was but made no move to fetch him. The reels in her mind began to work as a sinister smile pasted on her face.
