My most recent self-inflicted stressful episode is over. Yay!
I agreed to participate in a speech event during the city's "Learning and Cultural Festival" a few weeks ago, and today was the big day. I was nervous as hell, and hadn't practiced nearly enough, but I went along and gave my speech, which was centred around learning to be patient and developing skills and knowledge slowly, rather than being hasty, or being frustrated with how long it takes to learn things, and talked about my comparitive experiences learning kendo in Japan and Australia to illustrate my point. There were seven other speakers, so it wasn't a surprise to me that I placed outside the top three, but I received a cute little participation plaque from the organisers, and I actually had a really good time. The three top speakers were all engaging, interesting, and funny.
If I "compete" again next year, I'll have to come up with something a bit more lighthearted to talk about. =D
Going out tonight with a few of the other ALTs to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving. And tomorrow is a day off, so YAY! Sleep-in again tomorrow.
ETA: John Cusack was damn cute in 1990... Thank you, "The Grifters".
