Everyone else is doing it, so I will too.
I'm referencing last year's same survey for some things, so there you go.
1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Skipped school, graduated, went to college, all that fun stuff.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year, it seems my resolution was to stop worrying so much. I think I don't worry as much as I used to, but it could be better. This year, my resolution is to get my priorities straight.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
No. (for sake of consistency :P)
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
Same answer as last year: motivation.
7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
There are so many, being the end of senior year and all. Prom. Last day of school. Commencement. Leaving for college. Those are the top events in my mind.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting accepted to U of M.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Mmm...
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Pneumonia. 'Nuff said.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
New computer.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Ashton - I got to know you/her (depending on if you read this or not) a lot more this year, even if we hardly saw each other, and you were just always there as a great friend. Thanks :)
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Complaining band kids.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Gas, food, movie tickets (oh boy...), random college expenses, oh, and books!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Serenity! and Star Wars Episode III! and Graduating! and College! and that's mostly it!
16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
I don't know what the song's actually called, but the main lyrics are "Goodnight, sweetheart, goodnight." It seems like a farewell, or ending type of song, and I had a lot of those this year.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? I'm not sure. I've defined myself much more, but I don't know if that makes me happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? About the same, actually.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer. Thank you, three side jobs during the summer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Taking strong initiative.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Complaining.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Done.
22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
No.
23. How many one-night stands?
No.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Firefly! Honorable mention to Scrubs.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No.
26. What was the best book you read?
Hamlet.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Ben Folds.
28. What did you want and get?
U of M :)
29. What did you want and not get?
Relationship, maybe?
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Serenity, hands down.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I sat on my ass all day on my birthday. I turned 18.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Less wasted time.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
More sweaters, longer hair, being hot?
34. What kept you sane?
AIM.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Natalie Portman fo sho.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The thought of John Kerry being elected? It's more of a joke, but seriously, I don't think he'd handle the current situation very well.
37. Who did you miss?
Lots of people (predicted it right from last year!). Nick, Brian, Cory, Leah, Loren, Hilary, Ashton, Kyle, Peter, Jimmy, Steve, Kevin, Matt, Mike, Chris, the list goes on...but further, even though we go to the same school, I missed Ellen during the first semester, as we hardly saw each other. Finally, especially cos we don't go to the same school, I missed Eric loads. 'Twas rough without him. So yeah. Long answer. Sorry you didn't make the cut, Nate, seeing as I see you about three times a week on average, anyway :P
38. Who was the best new person you met?
One and a half people. I didn't technically "meet" Ashton this year, but I got to know her real well, and she's pretty sweet, so that was nice :) (that was the half). The best full new person I met was my roommate Dave. I'm pretty lucky to have been put with cool roommate for going in blind, and we've had pretty good times this first semester, here's to another great one!
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.
Enjoy the moment. You'll look back and say "wow."
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
I should check myself in for quoting Green Day, but "I hope you had the time of your life" is pretty representative, because I did, and I hope you did too.
Damn. Good year. Began a new chapter in my life, never forgot the exciting plot points of the previous parts. Met exciting new characters, and I'm starting to learn their parts in the story. Best of all, I'm starting to understand the theme.
Yeah that was kinda cheesy, but it fits well. Point is, it was a good year, and I look forward to the next.
Happy New Year, my friends!
-Love, Dan
