I just walked away from my desk to go outside and get some fresh air for a minute. The weather is gorgeous, I think around 70 degrees, and there’s scarcely a cloud in sight. I was tempted to remove my noose, change into a pair of shorts, and abandon my post. Fortunately I didn’t take myself up on that idea, as I quite enjoy my paychecks. But it got me thinking, how come we’re not doing anything outside? There’s a ton of things to do and the weather is perfect for them (by way of Adam I posted about 100 different things earlier), but it seems everyone lacks the motivation to actually go out in the sun. I know we’re only a month into the sunshine, but let’s hop to it...OR ELSE!
Is there anything, other than parties, of interest going on this weekend? Otherwise I am going to my camp. There’s a pig roast and my dad offered to buy me and whoever I bring a case of beer(!), that’s a deal that cannot be passed up. I’ll probably just go up Saturday and come home Sunday, unless I’m having a blast, but I’d rather find something around town to do since I’ll have Monday off. Is anyone else off Memorial Day? Let’s grab lunch and pull ourselves away from our monitors.
Speaking of monitors, I’ve been very tempted buy those folks at Apple to buy a new computer. I’m not really sure why, but computer is roughly 3 or 4 years old and is still a powerful machine. I’m sort of interested in getting a Mac Book Pro, but they haven’t been updated in awhile and I wouldn’t buy until they are. I should cut up my credit cards. I find this amusing, maybe two of you will get it - I met my friend Beth at the Apple Store on Sunday and I decided to shop around for a little bit. I didn’t see what I was looking for so I asked one of the “genius’” if they had any KVM switches. [quick side note here, the “KVM” stands for “Keyboard-Video-Mouse” and is used to connect said peripherals to multiple computers]. The lady asked me “Well, what do you want to use it for?” AHHH!!!!
This past weekend Jeffy, Sarah, Allison, and I went to Virginia to see the two-day Inquisition reunion. It was essentially the first big road trip of the summer (let’s face it, we go to Cleveland so much we could do it blindfolded - sans that one exit that doesn’t exist). We had a great time and the music was even better. Inquisition are by far one of the most underrated punk bands of our time. Their sound can be heard in a lot of bands from the East Coast and Midwest, but they never quite got the credit they deserved. We met a ton of awesome people and bands while we were south of the Mason Dixon Line, thanks to everyone. We raged pretty hard on Friday night and for the most were hung-over zombies on Saturday, so what do we decide to do after the show ended on Saturday? Take the 6-hour trek back to Pittsburgh! Sarah jokingly suggested that idea and I instigated it - it was one of the better ideas we’ve ever had. Richmond is nice, but I hate sleeping on tiny couches in the kitchen. While in RVA we had some of the most delicious pizza my mouth has ever had the pleasure of meeting. I had white pizza with Chesapeake Bay crab on it - fantastic!!!! I made PBR burgers once again during a Saturday afternoon cookout, genius!
On the drive down as we passed over Washington D.C. I realized that I have only been there once and that was on a field trip to the Holocaust Museum. A slightly depressing endeavor, but one I recommend everyone see at least once. Anyways…. Would anyone be interested in heading down to D.C. during one of the coming weekends? I guess it’s about 4 hours away so it could be backed into a one-day trip to save money (as seen above I have no problem arriving at home at 6am). I just want to do the typical touristy things like going to the Whitehouse, seeing the monuments, and checking out some other historical areas. One problem, I don’t really want to drive, I just drove to Virginia and I’ll be going to Philly at the beginning of June, so if any of you who possess a driver’s license want to escape the ‘Burgh for a small trip during an upcoming weekend let me know.
The aforementioned Philly trip is to see Boy Sets Fire’s last show (until the inevitable reunion in 3-6 years). Easily one of my favorite bands of my youth, so I’m very excited to head east with P Fresh, Adam, and Scott Heisel. I demand Philly Cheesesteaks!
Pirate games, you people need to get some motivation to go to a game with me! Nothing beats sitting in the sun with a container of nachos and watching Ian Snell mow down the opposition! To make this more enticing we should certainly tailgate and if anyone has a portable grill I’ll buy a pack of hotdogs and buns.
The Draft are playing tonight and even though I just saw them on Saturday I am overly excited! They certainly do not perform at the level Hot Water Music used to, but they are still an act to be reckoned with and are one of the better bands operating under the punk genre in 2007.
Adam, what’s the deal with that Sundowner gig in Cleveland - we still in? See also: Less Than Jake and Streetlight Manifesto.
Whoa...HOT DOG PIZZA!
Yesterday via his Myspace Bulletin Scott informed me that in February of 2008 Ben Folds will be playing on a cruise ship that heads to Jamaica. I’ve always wanted to go on a cruise - I think the price is flirting close to $700 (or certainly will be after taxes) - does anyone know how much your average cruise during that time of year to said destination costs? I’ve never seen Ben Folds so that is one hell of an added bonus to being a Pirate for 4 days during winter.
The other day at work I configured a Cisco Router all by myself. I’ve never taken a class on Cisco so I was kind of proud of myself for that one.
I think I’ll go enjoy my bagel, mandarin oranges, and a few episodes of Scrubs now.
