last night I installed the AMD 64-bit Version of the latest Ubuntu release. I chose to try the 64 bit version to maximize my ACER 4530 laptop (running on AMD TURION 64 X2 Ultra).

I installed it in a different partition (good thing i had spare partitions). I decided to give it 8 Gigabytes for the file system (/) and I just reused the /home partition of my other active Ubuntu OS.

LOL it worked. It was like having two different systems but using the same /home directory (and some basic configurations too ^_^). I just used the same username and password so I wouldn't confuse myself

yeah the promised "fast boot speed" is really fast. Didn't even take 25 seconds (basic install of course).

The previous version of ubuntu doesn't detect the wireless network connectivity function key on the side (only the blue tooth button). Now the button works and I can manually scan wireless networks. Before, just getting to start scanning for wireless networks was kind of hit and miss. Though once detected it was ok.

the recommended proprietary display driver is the NVIDIA-GLX-180 version.

one of the weird things about this 64-bit system is that there isn't (YET) a real final release 64-bit version of the FLASH PLAYER plugin for firefox o_O Downloading the plugin had it also download the i386 libraries

synaptic automatically did those so it wasn't really a problem

I just hope this doesn't affect the other applications that I plan to install.

one more thing, GNOME still lacks some options on what columns to display on dialog boxes :-( i just can't find it. Like when you open a file, you would want to sort the list by file size. It only has file name and date modified. though the normal file manager is configurable even before
in the end it was satisfying so far. I ended up with a LONG list in my GRUB boot loader LOL XD
