LJ挑戦 ~ LJ Challenge
Being asked to pick a favorite pairing in the BL world is an extremely hard task for me. That being said I dug down deep and choose one of my favorite pairings: Hatori Yoshiyuki x Yoshino Chiaki (羽鳥 芳雪 x 吉野 千秋) from the Novel/Manga/Drama CD/Anime series Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi (世界一初恋) by Shungiku Nakamura. Though the novel series Sekai Ichi Hatsu Koi ~ Yoshino Chiaki no Baai~ (世界一初恋 ～吉野千秋の場合～) is written by Fujisaki Miyako and illustrated by Shungiku Nakamura. I’m going to be combining the novels/Drama Cds with the anime since it seems the anime had a lot of censoring when it came to “Yoshino Chiaki no Baai.”
Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi is set at Marukawa Publishing’s notorious Emerald shoujo manga department known as the “Maiden department”「乙女部」. Hatori (Tori) Yoshiyuki is an editor at the infamous Maiden department at Emerald who is in charge of editing his childhood friend Yoshino Chiaki whom is a mangaka under the pen name Yoshikawa Chiharu.
It’s boring!「つまらない」
Na--「なっ・・」
Chiaki and Tori had been together practically since the day they were born. Their families were neighbors so they even went to college though they were in different departments they had been inseparable. To add to the mix in the story you also have Yuu Yanase who is Chiaki’s chief assistant who’s known both Chiaki and Tori since Jr. High. The catch is that Yuu has been in love with Chiaki since then. Needless to say the relationship between Tori and Yuu is turbulent since both men are in love with Chiaki who has no clue about their feelings. The battle for Chiaki starts when one day as Chiaki is at Marukawa dropping off his manuscript to Masume Takano for a small section for the magazine’s supplement. Chiaki was going to drop if off with Tori but he was in a meeting with another author at the time. Since Takano was the only other person who knew Chiaki’s true identity he gladly meets with him at the lobby to pick up the manuscript. As Chiaki leaves Marukawa he decides to go shopping for some art supplies and he sees who appears to be Tori. As he gets closer to call out to him he notices that Yuu is there in the midst of a conversation.
Isn’t that? Tori?「あれ？トリ？」
Chiaki at this point is perplexed since he knows these two do not get along well so why would they be hanging out together. As he is about to call out to both of them he hears Tori scream at Yuu which of course Chiaki doesn’t hear correctly because of the ongoing rain.
Stop fucking around!「ふざけるな！」
As Chiaki thinks about interrupting them he notices they way Tori and Yuu are standing underneath the umbrella and thus begins a huge misunderstanding for Chiaki. He believes that both of them were kissing under the umbrella. He recalls a previous conversation he had with Tori regarding whom he liked to which he replied “nothing good would come out of it.” To make things even more confusing to Chiaki both Yuu and Tori ask Chiaki if at one point did either of them say anything to Chiaki. Things come to ahead as one day Chiaki is napping and he feels something on his lips. As he opens his eyes he says Tori kissing him.
Tori....「トリ…」
Chiaki immediately asks what he is doing. CHiaki also asks Tori if he in fact gay. As he proceds to tell Tori that if he is it doesn’t matter. Tori at this point goes into complete Seme mode and proceeds to have sex with Chiaki.
Why is this…. 「…んで、こんな」
As they are having smex Tori says I’m sorry as he calls out “Yoshino” and tells him that he loves him. Chiaki notices Tori making a sad face as they continue. After the incident Chiaki wonders why Tori did that to him if he was going out with Yuu since he is still under his misunderstanding about the events of the day in the rain. He wonders if things are not going well with Yuu which is the reason why he was used as a replacement. Then he wonders why Yuu would have a problem with Tori since he’s such a great guy. He thinks it’s a shame Tori isn’t interested in him instead. **Giant misunderstanding Chiaki he’s in love with you***
Later on Tori invites Chiaki to a fireworks festival as for inspiration for his manga. Of course Chiaki is nervous about seeing Tori after the incident.
Yo! 「よお！」
Tori leads Chiaki to a good spot someone told him about to check out the fireworks. As they get settle down Tori proceeds to tell Chiaki how he really feels about him. He tells him that he in love with him.
I love you. You probably already know that, but I wanted to tell you myself.
「お前がすき？もう知ってる？いったい何のことだよ…？」
Sorry, can you say that again. What did you just say? 「….ごめん、もっかい云って……。いま、何て…」
Tori tells Chiaki again that he is in love with him and has been for the past 28 years. He tells him how happy he was when he became his editor. Of course this is news to Chiaki who never noticed Tori’s feelings. Chiaki doesn’t understand since he thought that Tori had feelings for Yuu. Tori, quickly corrects Chiaki’s assertion by asking why he would think of such a disgusting idea. Chiaki tells Tori that he loves him as well. Tori says as a childhood friend right? Chiaki starts to think about the kiss from the other night and how it didn’t feel bad. Chiaki asks Tori to kiss him again. Tori doesn’t want to at first but of course he kisses him and they take things back to Chiaki’s house.
Back at Chiaki’s house Tori asks Chiaki how was the kiss from earlier and things go rather well for Tori’s unrequited love. XD
I love you Chiaki.「好きだよ、千秋」
I am a big fan of Sekaiichi Hatsaukoi series and I do love all the couples that are in the story but Hatori and Chiaki have that special place with me. Tori ‘s is that serious type of Seme that only lets Chiaki see his insecurities. Plus the fact that he is a good cook which is always a plus in my book. As for Chiaki his aloofness makes him so endearing to me. Tori and Chiaki complement each other well and though I do feel bad for Yuu since he is on the losing side of the triangle for Chiaki I could only see Chiaki with Tori. The other plus factor the fact that Yuichi Nakamura is Hatori’s seiyuu. It’s no secret that I have the doki doki’s for Nakamura-san and the fact that he voices a character that I’m drawn to is an instant win, win situation in my eyes.
