Stupid one-offs on various topics

I don't like to cause or get involved in workplace drama, and I have never hated one of my coworkers before, but I'm fast approaching that stage with Lilia -- the girl at the library I mentioned in my last post. How the hell is she still employed there? Why do they not give me her job when I am clearly more competent (and have been told as much by my coworkers)? I swear, I can accomplish more in my three-hour shifts than she does in a full day. Case in point: Saturday was apparently busy, as the new books hadn't been put out on the displays when we got there Sunday. The bookdrop was unusually busy for that day, though, so I was doing that pretty much all day and though I did some new-books shelving I didn't get to the nonfiction -- which was at that point overflowing onto the floor, so I put it on a cart. I show up at 3 pm on Monday, and... the new nonfiction is sitting there on that cart, still not having gone out. After they'd been open for SIX HOURS. And Monday mornings are NOT busy at all, I can tell you from experience. ARGH.

Got my car inspected today. Arrived at the station at 10:10, was out by 10:20. I was rather blown away by this, but anything would have been an improvement on my two-hour experience (part of which involved standing in the frigid cold for a substantial amount of time due to a fire drill) last time.

I may have gotten more descriptive and tolerant in my grammar views, but the lack of parallelism here IS MAKING ME ABSOLUTELY BATTY.

Still merrily rolling along in Dragon Age. Alistair wants me to deny that I have any feelings for Zevran, but I refuse to answer the question 'cause I know he's a closeted-racist prick who's gonna dump my elven ass once we decide to make him king and so I'm already planning for Zev to be my rebound. (God that sounds horrible, doesn't it?) Meandering through the Deep Roads, I have discovered that Oghren can be quite amusing (though not so much as Shale), but really the very best is Wynne's dialogue. With everybody. Though Leliana's staying in the box 'cause I've already maxed out her approval and she's not in love with me and isn't especially interesting.

Next playthrough I think I'm going to go around going "nyaaaaah" at the Chantry every chance I get. Which isn't likely to end well (I think I heard Wynne leaves your party if you desecrate Andraste's ashes, but I guess I can always teach Morrigan to be healing bitch).

Question: Should basic knowledge of Christianity, or at least Biblical tales and metaphors, be a facet of cultural literacy in Western society?
Question: Is historical cultural literacy dead, given way entirely to popular cultural literacy? Are there multiple popular cultural literacies?
Question: Why are people on both sides of the atheist-theist debate so adamant about it when there's really no way anyone can tell for certain there is or isn't a higher power?
Question: What can I do so I can afford to be a professional student? The LIS field is looking pretty bare-bones at the moment, unfortunately.
Question: Should I just go straight for another Masters (this time in English or Linguistics), putting off having to pay off loans by staying in school, or should I wait a couple years and get started on paying them off now?
--actually never mind that last one. I should have already applied wherever if I were gonna go for another degree right away. Oh well.

Muse's new album. How awful is it that my favorite track ("I Belong To You/Mon Coeur S'ouvre A Ta Voix") is the hokiest one? Also it makes me think SuzaLulu, fffff.

While we're on the topic of music and fandom... Tell me, flist, are there certain songs out there that encapsulate perfectly everything you feel/love about a pairing/character/fandom? Like, say, for me there will never be a truer song about the Cloud/Tifa relationship post-FF7 than Vienna Teng's "Love Turns 40" and I will continue associating it with them forever and ever. Likewise Muse's "Uprising" for the Black Knights and "Citizen Erased" for Lelouch and "Butterflies And Hurricanes" for Suzaku-Kallen-Lelouch and "Unnatural Selection" for Code Geass in general (artist overload + simultaneous fandom overload = much of this intermixing). And Hybrid's "Choke" fits well for C.C. imo. Also A Perfect Circle's "The Package" is the best Bet-era Sakurazuka Seishirou song ever.

So, what are some of yours -- for any fandom, even ones we may not have in common?

fandom, work, music, dragon age, life
