So, today I finished Crisis Core. Final observations:
- ......WTF, it looks like Angeal in white hair and...... a suit. o..o
WHAT THE FUCK, HOLLANDER, YOU LOOK LIKE YOU WENT THROUGH HELL. ...and why does he have a winglet? o..o
- ...I hope that conversation wasn't too important, because I understood none of it other than Genesis's "You two ran." Aaaaaand he's quoting Loveless again, of course. He blabs on some more about something else, and then flies off, leaving Zack with the stupid apple and the words "Soon you'll understand."
- OH HELL NO YOU AIN'T TAKIN' MY CLOUD. D<
...okay, apparently I get to beat up on a scientist. Waiting for this to get hard...
NO YOU CANNOT FIT THAT GIANT MISSILE IN YOUR MANPURSE; FAIL. Also, stop hitting me with it. The manpurse, I mean, though the missile would be good too.
Well, at least he's actually dead now, finally...
- So we go back after Hollander dies -- Genesis and the others are gone -- and whitehaired!Angeal goes "It's been a while, hasn't it?" Zack says something I can't understand, and the other guy says "I can't fight like a First Class. I'm an Angeal copy."
...HOLY SHIT IT'S LAZARD WTF WTF WTF (that explains the ridiculous suit at least).
Apparently he was the one who spirited Hollander away from Junon... Zack asks why, and I don't quite understand his answer.
He wants to help us (using "kimi" is awfully familiar there, buddy boy), and to save Genesis... No, he says, it's a bigger feeling than that -- he wants to save the world.
And he asks the question we've all been wondering -- WTF is this "megami no okurimono," gift from the Goddess, Genesis is always going on about? Zack doesn't know, and asks what they should do. I think Lazard might say something here about wondering about Angeal travelling... but why is he using "kureru"?
Ahh, he asks Zack once more what his dream is. Zack seems surprised by the question, but answers... "to become a hero." Some things never change, I guess. I'm not quite sure what Lazard's exact response is, but there's "it's a good dream" in there -- much different from actually, it's exactly the same as what he said way back when. Zack says "what are you talking about? Lend me your power; with Angeal--" and a bunch of stuff I don't quite understand and something about everyone being a hero.
...and then Lazard asks a question that makes Zack gasp and hold out the apple, and Lazard says "I see..." That's fabulous for you, but I don't.
- Insert further expression of love for the "end chapter" screens.
- So it seems like they figure Genesis is back in Banora...
Oh, hey, the place is pretty much a Lifestream-filled crater like post-WEAPON Mideel, now. Good to know. It's pretty at night, though.
Zack asks Lazard to keep an eye on Cloud... and goes off to explore some glowy green Lifestreamy thing shooting up into the sky in the distance. They still have the motorcycle, so I can only assume Banora is on the Second Continent somewhere... probably not too far from Gongaga, considering the general similarity of the plant life (aside from Banora's apple trees).
- ...uh? Zack found a book about Banora white apple juice... and I think it might say something about it being Genesis's idea when he was a boy? o..O
...Enjoying the apples with the hero Sephiroth was his dream, apparently... I wonder what changed.
- ...I have no idea what order to do these caves in.
...oh, wait, nope, I found the last one first. *headdesk*
The feel of this place is very "final dungeon," like. Also, it really likes the summons on the DMW (come ON, give me Odin for ONCE.)
WHY CAN I ONLY FIND 6 OF THE GODDESS MATERIA? ;_; Oh wait, there's the last one... hiding, the sneaky bastard.
...I can't figure out how to get around in this prison area, and there's a King Behemoth behind that locked door there, but I can't get in to beat it. Phooey.
- For the record, Genesis looks ridiculous with white hair.
..."you're late"? Uh?
And Genesis blabs something to which Zack responds "You're wrong! Open your eyes, Genesis!" Genesis just starts quoting Loveless, and Zack says "I came to save you," and Genesis ignores him and keeps quoting, and I feel like I missed something really important if we're saving him now instead of killing him. Dammit.
...and there's this huge red thing (a materia?) that's apparently the gift from the Goddess, Banora's... something I can't understand.
And neither does Zack, apparently.
Ugh, it's another one of those "everyone will return to the Planet" things, yeesh. And Genesis will receive the Planet's divine protection, blah blah blah...
And Zack's just like "HEY LISTEN TO ME YOU IDIOT" (not in those exact words, but...) and something about not becoming a monster... Too late.
- GODS DAMMIT I SHOULD'VE EQUIPPED SOME OFFENSIVE MAGIC I CAN'T GET AT THIS BASTARD FOR CRAP.
Also, Fire Ring. Keep that in mind. Dude's predictable, if nothing else.
oh, hey, Shadow Flare, being able to dodge you is nice.
AND WHY, GENESIS, DO YOU COME BACK ON MY DMW FOR A FIGHT AGAINST YOURSELF? WTF (not that I'm complaining; more like that would be fabulous, please).
......Actually, this is a pretty boring fight. It's just taking forever. But with the way the DMW keeps giving me back MP even if I'm not limiting, I could go like this all day.
And done. *yawn*
- ...oh, hey, his degeneration has reversed. Genesis quotes Loveless, says something that makes Zack go "Could it be? From the beginning--" He lunges at him, and when Zack just sidesteps yells, "Fight, SOLDIER First Class Zack!" This is starting to sound familiar...
- NOW we have a boss fight. Zack is clearly not happy about it, but...
FUCK YEAH, CISSNEI'S THE FIRST LIMIT I GET.
...that was too easy. :/
- Ah, now we have the scene with Genesis meeting the Goddess. I almost feel bad for how sad he looks when she flings him away...
And the statue breaks, and he falls backwards, unconscious or dead or in that state of "out of action for at least a few years" that seems to happen all the damn time on this Planet.
...and Zack slings him over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes and walks off. o..o He puts him next to the chair Cloud's sitting in in preparation for the trippy apple scene.
- "ShinRa came," says Lazard, clearly hurting, and Zack says "You don't have to say anything," but Lazard says "That guy fought together with me"... and it's the Angeal-beast that was in Aeris's church. It appears to be dead, and while Zack's getting upset over that Lazard croaks too, and poor Zack looks like he's about to start crying. "Thank you..."
And then we have the trippy apple scene, which I'm not gonna say much about 'cause it's all
here.
I think, however, Aeris's letter can be better translated (roughly, of course) as follows: "Are you doing well? Where are you? It's been 4 years, and this is my 89th letter. I don't have much hope anymore. If you get this final letter, Zack -- selling the flowers is going well. Everyone's faces become happy. It's thanks to you, Zack."
It's interesting to note her tone in the letter is very polite, not the casual form of speech one would expect from one's girlfriend...
- ......uh, a ShinRa helicopter just came and a pair of SOLDIERs took Genesis away after Zack and Cloud left. They both have First Class uniforms, and the one who picked him up has white hair... but we don't get to see his face, and the voices are definitely unfamiliar.
.........okay, I think that was a page of Loveless that just fluttered down onto a chair -- the last scene, it looked like it might've been -- and... the Lifestream just put more text on it. o..o
- ...Tseng's talking to Cissnei about this mission... I think he might've said something about her sparing Zack, and she said "Of course" and something about... not knowing that guy's real name?
...oh shit, are they going to help them? I think the Turks are going to help them. Or try to, anyway, since... well... yeah.
Tseng appears to be doing it for Aeris's sake, mentioning 88 letters... well, this just puts a whole new spin on things. Pity they couldn't get there before the army did...
- We only get the very end of the "tomodachi darou" scene. Sadface.
- Reno and Rude are talking about this mission, and Reno mentions something about it having lasted a whole year... Then they get radioed by a woman -- possibly Cissnei? -- and there's some kind of coordinates in there, and Reno says "hurry" and they zoom off... except that's the two they're looking for right down there. Continue the rest of the FMV with Zack settling Cloud down, Cloud reaching after him, and Zack going up against all those damn troopers. It LOOKS like the thousand-MPs fight, except there you went up against them in groups of 10 rather than all at once.
"Cling to your dreams," Zack reminds himself as he holds the Buster to his forehead the way Angeal used to, "and never, at any time, let go of the pride of a SOLDIER." And he charges in with his "Irasshaimase~!"
NO FUCKING WAY ARE YOU MAKING ME FIGHT THEM ALL. OMFG I HATE YOU SO HARD RIGHT NOW, YOU COULD'VE AT LEAST LET ME SAVE FIRST.
.........I am so confused about WTF is going on with the DMW. It's like... dying. Voices coming and going, people disappearing on it, half stuck on Aeris, or something...
............well, at least they didn't give me any of that "conflict resolved" bullshit...
Ohhh, Zack... It looks like he's been fighting all day, and this last fight, with just two MPs and their commander, it's so horribly sad seeing him hunched over, swinging his sword as if it weighs twice as much as usual...
...bam, Aeris limit, just as he reaches 0 hp, and then followed by the sound of gunshots...
...............................and the ending FMV. I get the feeling her limit gave him just enough strength to say goodbye to Cloud... or perhaps that's why she felt him in the church... or some combination of the two?
- OH GODS I STILL GET CHOKED UP. T_________________T
- .........uh. The ending credits have Weiss and Nero in them, so... I guess they were the ones who took Genesis? o..O
Music's nice, though.
- .........and dammit, the post-credits movie makes me want a remake, despite my misgivings on the subject. :/
In conclusion: Barrier and Regen are your best friends, and I desperately need to hunt down feel-good fixit fic now.
But first, lunch.
