Daemon AU
Nino lied on the sofa with Haru on top, his eyes were closed and he was breathing regularly. Haru’s eyes twitched now and then when a sound came from the kitchen, wincing slightly when a glass fell and broke on the floor followed by a shriek from Sho and scuttling as a mix of demons broke out of the kitchen when Jun yelled at them to stand back.
Ohno chuckled softly when Mimi settled around his neck, murmuring about them being too loud and looked at the other daemons for a second as they settled around the doorway to the kitchen to peek inside. At least it didn’t seem as if any one of them was hurt yet. His eyes fell back to Nino who had not moved much, probably too used to the noise as a roommate of Aiba. He could tell that the younger was not asleep because Haru had jumped slightly and growled but he knew that the boy was just fully relaxed right now and probably really tired after their latest concert that had just finished an hour ago.
Since there were no things planned for tomorrow the five of them had decided to go all to the flat of Nino and Aiba together, have some dinner, snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic since two out of five were still not allowed and Aiba was just tearing the allowed age after all). Also, they wanted to discuss how to make their concerts more interesting. The audience was less and less and they had to face some critic from fans, their seniors and management that they could not really wrap their heads around. It was frustrating and sad but they wanted to see if they could come up with better ideas.
After all, now after the first years, they had grown closer and met their fans and got such nice words like making days brighter they didn’t want to step down just like that. At least that was the public reason for them all. For Ohno, it was more the fear of losing the closeness he had built with Nino over the last couple of years. It would be hard to not see the younger man and his cute daemon every other day and was allowed to touch him here and there. Just slight caresses of hands against hands or the inside of his elbow of course. He didn’t want to scare Nino away and Nino was jumpy with advances. That much he had already realised whenever someone tried to flirt with the younger.
Nino would snuggle up to him if he needed comfort or was tired and wanted warmth. He loved those stolen moments so so much and would never want to give them up.
The sounds from the kitchen lessened and Nino opened an eye half. He looked at Ohno with a tired smile and Ohno couldn’t help but smile back right away. It was like an automatic reaction. Whenever Nino would poke him, look at him or smile he had to react. The idea of Nino paying extra attention to him to make sure he contributed to their shows and interviews and not space out the whole time made him happy. It was as if he was as special to Nino as Nino was to Ohno. It was at least a small hope that bloomed inside of him each time that Nino looked at him, whenever Haru calmed down close to him and Mimi. Whenever Nino would allow him to touch him or snuggle up to Ohno for Ohno it felt as if there was a chance that Nino had feelings back for him.
Maybe feelings that Nino could not fully put a finger on just yet but Ohno would make sure that would change soon. He hoped that their relationship would change soon. He just couldn’t wait to be allowed to kiss a frown off Nino’s face and shower him with all the feelings he had. Nino deserved it so so much after all.
“Did they finally succeed with destroying my kitchen?” Nino asked, drawing Ohno from his thoughts and he blinked. Nino moved with a small grown, causing Haru to slip from his shoulders and put him in his lap instead to play with the fluffy ears.
“At least there were no deaths?”
“Yet,” Nino said with a sigh. “I am hungry,” he suddenly whined loudly and Jun appeared in the door to glare at them.
“If it’s like that you could help,” he snorted.
“I am surprised three men and daemons already fit in that space,” Nino shot back, wrinkling his nose. “No way I will squeeze in there as well. Also, three pairs of hands should be more than enough.”
“With Sho inside it feels as if we lost five hands,” Aiba piped in and Nino laughed when Sho complained that he was helping and doing his best with cutting vegetables.
Nino winced since Sho always handled knives that make you worry for his fingers and hands and every other body part. Partly because Sho looked scared of the knife all the time which made it even more dangerous.
“Maybe next time you should pick the salad leaves apart and wash them,” Nino offered and sighed. “Do you really need help?” He looked hopeful that it was not the case and Jun’s lips twitched with a fond smile, that Ohno could understand a lot. It seemed as if they all liked to tease Nino but also to pamper him whenever possible. The youngest of them shook his head after a moment.
“No, it’s almost ready. You could clean up the coffee table so we can put the bowls there, though.”
“Uhn,” Nino answered a thankful smile on his lips as he slipped off the sofa, his fingers touching Ohno’s knees just a second that still made the older tingle all over it also made Mimi purr before he sorted the magazines and papers on the table in neat files to put them on a board at the wall, making sure to not destroy the haphazardly order they had been in since it was mostly working or school-related and it would take time to sort them out again after again which he felt unnecessary.
On his way back he playfully kicked Satoshi who caught his foot and made Nino tumble on top of him with a surprised shriek. Ohno giggled even if Nino’s bony elbows landed in his stomach, but his shocked face made up to the pain tenfold.
Their daemons cried out in surprise as their humans almost landed on top of them and scurried away. Haru looked offended at the both of them and Nino hit the back of Ohno’s head in retaliation as he met Haru’s eyes who soon enough was calmed down by Mimi teasing and headbutting him for as long as it took to make him join her in a playful chase through the rooms where the rest joined soon enough.
“Ah, enough rest?”
Nino stuck out his tongue, but couldn’t deny that after the 30 minutes of dozing off on the sofa he felt back full-on energy. He cleaned the table with a cloth and then decided that Ohno’s lap was the perfect place to stay as the others emerged out of the kitchen. Ohno grinned happily as he put his arms around Nino’s waist happily and put his chin on his shoulder as he observed the feast that the others put on the table.
As he had decided not to help with the preparations for the dinner early on, Ohno had bought a mix of fruits as a dessert together with some salty snacks for later. The others had made a salad, different fried vegetables, chicken, and of course rice in different bowls for them to share and choose whatever they liked.
“I will take your carrots,” Nino whispered into Ohno’s ear. “If you take my mushrooms.”
Ohno perked up at the offer and nodded. “Deal.”
Nino chuckled and sat down beside Ohno to thank them for cooking and chose what he wanted. He smiled at Haru when the fox daemon sat rolled up around his hips, making it so that Nino could half lean against him without having to strain his back. He offered him a strawberry and started with their meal.

“I have no idea what they mean with the halls are cold,” Aiba mumbled with a pout as he drank his soda.
“Should we turn up the heaters?” Nino asked only half-jokingly and stuck out his tongue when Sho glared at him.
“You do know they don’t mean it like that. Don’t be stupid.”
“Do we? I thought the same at the start,” Nao murmured, and Haru hid against Nino’s stomach as he giggled at those innocent words. Nino poked him with a snort but couldn’t hide his smile fully when Jun blushed. Their youngest band member was so cute sometimes. They were lucky they didn’t offer that solution out loud, or they would have been the laughing stock.
“But we already do our best,” Yua’s voice was small and insecure and Nino leant over to hug Aiba with one arm, knowing that from time to time Aiba felt insecure about his place in Arashi. After all, he had been kind of an after-thought by Johnny.
“We are, but does that mean you want to give up now?” Ohno asked calmly, patting Mimi who was twitching on his lap in clear nervousness.
“We have to do better,” Sho agreed and Mikan nodded. The raccoon was watching everybody with a frown and Sho cleared his throat. “I was thinking about writing my raps or trying at least. I think they can benefit from being my own instead of from others.”
“That sounds good.”
Nino moved beside them a bit nervously and then cleared his throat. “Maybe… We can write a song together? To thank the fans and tell them we are earnest about everything. Our anniversary is also coming up.”
“I have no idea how to write songs,” Jun said and Aiba nodded. Ohno had to agree as well and felt a bit bad for Nino when he deflated slightly.
“But I think it is a good idea,” Ohno added, wanting to make Nino smile again. And he thought the idea was good. A song they wrote themselves to make things more fun was a good idea. “Also we can try to make things more lively during the concerts, interact more with the fans,” he said, already planning to answer all uchiwas he saw about himself.
“Closer to the fans…” Jun said deep in thought and poked Nao who rolled up in the answer.
“How could we write a song?” Aiba asked. “You know how to do that, right?”
Nino nodded mutely. It was his hobby after all. “I’m not that good though. But I have something that might fit the idea, and for the text I’m sure I can write something with Sho, right? You want to do raps so it fits. And you all can give us ideas and I will try my best to make a song out of it.”
“Let’s do it!” Aiba said already clear that he was thinking about what he wanted Nino to write.
Ohno poked Nino and grinned when the other glared at him. “Play the melody you have in mind for us. It might make it easier.
“I’m not sure I want to,” Nino said with a pout.
“Aww please!”
Nino fidgeted nervously but Haru was already up on his feet, tugging him softly to make him get the guitar as now that Nino has made that statement he wanted to show them what he had in mind. Because he was not only thankful for their fans but the other four as well. Arashi had become his life and instead of that being scary it was comforting since it meant he would not be alone. Hopefully at least. He grimaced as he went to get the guitar, telling his gut feeling that today was not the day he would be sad and scared so suddenly without reason!
