Kenshin Dub

Okay after watching the Kenshin outtakes that Amewarashi posted I realized how much I really loved the Kenshin dub.

Sure it wasn't perfect. I can never watch the Soujiro backstory episodes in English because his character's VA does not have the same emotion as the Japanese Seiyuu but it is hard to beat someone as skilled as Noriko Hidaka. I hated Chu's fake Australian accent. Some of the voices, especially for minor characters were really bad. And finally they couldn't pronounce a lot of names, especially early on cringes on how they pronounced Yahiko in the early episodes

But overall the dub was really good. Especially when you consider the Kenshin dub came out when anime was just starting to become big in the US and a lot of dubs were still pretty bad. Maybe not every voice was perfect but I thought the main cast was great. Kenshin's dub voice is a prime example of how something should be dubbed when the Japanese seiyuu is female. Richard Hayworth's Kenshin is more masculine but it still is not overly low. I also loved the voices of Shishio, Aoshi, Misao, Yumi, Hiko, and Saitou.

But for some reason I always see people list this as one of the worst dubs. Maybe what I think is bad is different from everyone else. And I do think a lot of dubs are just atrocious.

Well Kenshin is one of the series I can enjoy for the most part in either Japanese or English.

Shishio getting date raped HA HA I love Steven Blum.

I am really in this nostalgic anime mood today!

Edit: But the dub for the movie and OVAS are just awful (that is because it is a different cast from the TV series).
