Travel Research- Japan

I love researching, it's part of the reason I am going into library science so naturally I am in charge of researching our trip to Japan (Katie is going to be in charge of language when we get there since she knows the most Japanese and Shannon is in charge of directions since she did such a good job in Italy). Anyways I already found us 3 cheap hotels (2 in Tokyo, we are going to cancel one) and 1 in Kyoto. They are actually more hostels then hotels but saving money is more important to us then staying in luxury. The Tokyo hostels are not in the best location one is in Yoyogi Park near the Meiji Shrine and the other (the one I think we are going to stay in) is near Asakusa which is right by the Sensoji Temple. In Kyoto we are right near Kyoto station which I am very happy with.

I also found out how to get a JR Rail Pass. Found out about the Metro Pass and found out how to get reservations to the Imperial Palace and basically mapped out all areas we would like to visit in Tokyo. We are only going to have 2 full days in the city so I am not sure if we will have time to do everything. On the 3rd day we are probably going to Hakone for the Hotsprings and a view of Fuji. Unfortunately we won't have time to go to the Ghibli museum. :/

Kyoto is a little harder to map out but I think I have a list of all the important shrines and temples and of course we want to see Gion. Figuring out which shrines and temples to see will be the hard part. Most cost money to get into. And of course there are things besides shrines and temples. I also want to see the Kyoto Imperial Palace. We will have two days in Kyoto and two days for day trips. One day we are going to Himeji castle for sure the other day we haven't decided, maybe Nara or maybe Kurama and Kibune (I am leaning towards Nara).

I know it's sort of sad that I am planning this far ahead. Well it's only 3 months. :)
