Manga Meme

This is going to change soon because of space issues I am going to have to box up some of my manga (and I have some not pictured in closets that I might have to give away). For example I have an entire shelf dedicated to FMA (English editions, Japanese editions, and the special Japanese editions and as much as I love FMA, 3 shelves of it may be too much).

I don't have the right Kindle for it at the moment but when I need a new Kindle I may also switch to digital manga for certain series. Although for absolute favorites I will stick to print.

Now onto the questions

1) What was your first manga

The first I bought was some random Dragonball or DBZ volume. I had no plan to collect them all (and I still have these volumes somewhere).

First I planned to collect all was Inuyasha but I stopped somewhere around the 20th something volume (long series scare me off...I did finish reading it).

Ranma 1/2 was also a very early series I bought. I don't own it all though I just bought my favorite volumes. There are 36 volumes of Ranma and I own 24 random ones to give you an idea.

But I believe the first series I collected in full was Rurouni Kenshin.

What is your most expensive manga

Probably the 2 Chihayfuru Imported English versions or the FMA special editions mainly because importing them from Japan was expensive. And at the time the yen to dollar conversion wasn't as good as it is now. But I love both so they were worth the cost.

3) What is your rarest manga

I own a lot of OOP manga, manga sadly doesn't stay in print very long but I think getting a full set of Maison Ikkoku is pretty expensive so I am glad I got it when I did. In fact one volume (Vol 9) I had got water damage and I was lucky that it was one of the volumes that can be found for cheaper.

4) What is your least expensive manga

No idea, when I first started buying manga it was expensive and flipped (my Ranma 1/2 volumes are flipped) but then manga being published in the right direction became the norm (thank god) and the price dropped significantly. Now the price has gone up again (although not quite as much as when I first started) but thankfully manga is no longer flipped.

It was pretty much $15--> $7-8--> $10-12 is the norm today.

5) What is the most boring manga you own

Well not boring per say but I am no longer a fan of the type of story in Socrates in love (Tragic Cancer romance story). It's I guess the manga equivalent of Fault in your Stars (which I still have not seen or read).

What is your favorite manga series

It's always going to be FMA. I mean come on I have an entire shelf dedicated to it (well except the random Nyanko-Sensei sitting on the shelf). XD

6)What is the most relatable manga you own

Kind of cheating here because I only own a few random volumes of the Japanese version but I am going to say Honey and Clover I find Takemoto one of the most relatable protagonists. However I went with collecting the anime for this because at the time I could only afford anime or manga of a series and at least with H&C with a few different scenes here and there you still get the full story in the anime. As for the random Japanese volumes, probably picked them up at Otakon.

7) What is a manga you own based off an anime

None because I am not really into those type of series, so I am going to cheat again and say the Avatar series which is an American comic. I've stopped buying them after the first two trilogies but may start again when I can get them digitally.

8) What is the most popular manga you own

Fruits Basket was definitely the best selling back when it was coming out. Kenshin and FMA also sold really well.

And there was a question about manga that was reprinted the most but I have no clue

9) What is the least popular manga you own

My own question because I like to do opposites, but this would have to be Nodame Cantabile which sadly didn't even sell enough to finish. I will forever be bitter about this. :(

11)What is the most damaged manga you own

Rumic World which I bought used in the first place. I am not a big fan of buying used manga but this was already oop and it has 2 of my favorite short Takahashi stories: Fire Tripper & The Laughing Target. It wasn't in horrible condition but in worst condition than I keep my own manga.

12) Which manga has the most amazing art

Probably Nausicaa of the Wind, I mean it is Miyazaki after all. But this will probably be sacrilegious, I wasn't a big fan of the story. And sorry no picture it's in a closet somewhere.

13) What is the oldest manga you own?

Probably my large flipped Ranma volumes or that Rumic World manga.

14) What is the newest manga you own

Barakamon Vol 5 (it should be Vol 6 which hasn't even shipped from TRSI yet even though it's apparently in stock)

The 2 Attack on Titan: No Regret Volumes are also pretty recent. These are Levi's back story. I have no intention of collecting AOT but this was only 2 volumes so short and sweet. I still need to read them though

15) What are some of the most recent volumes of manga you purchased

Barakamon Vol 6 and 7
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun Vol 1
Natsume Yuujinchou Vol 19

And I bought the Japanese special edition of Akatsuki no Yona Vol 19 so I can get the OVA.
