Manga Update

Aug 12, 2015 16:25

I've just noticed I have not posted here since April but I've had the urge to talk about the manga I am reading/collecting and live journal is still the best place to do that.

Anyways after a long drought more manga I want to buy is coming out. This has caused me to decide I am going to have to box up some of my manga collection. Although I don't want to do this and would rather have everything on my shelf I am just out of space. And unfortunately until I can move I won't be able to add more shelves. I still hope to keep the majority of my collection out.

Anyways the ongoing series I am buying are:

* Yotsuba & (comes out very infrequently and there is no new volume on the horizon)
* Natsume Yuujinchou (about 2 volumes a year...I was caught up on the scanlations and even Raws but I fell behind on that and will probably just stick to waiting for the Viz releases for now. Natsume is probably my favorite series I am currently buying)
* Barakamon Just started purchasing this year. It's a fun read, so far we are mostly still covering what the anime did but every once and awhile there is a chapter the anime skipped. I am looking forward to getting to the parts the anime did not cover.

Upcoming Series I plan to Purchase

* Montly Girls Nozaki-Kun- First Volume is out in November, already purchased. Again mostly looking forward to the parts the anime did not cover but it will probably be awhile until the volumes get there.
* Rose of Versailles- First Volume Coming out in 2016. This hasn't been solicited yet but I will preorder it as soon as it is. I am also happy this is a finished series because it will be easier to collect (I used to only collect finished series in Japan but somewhere along the way I stopped that practice) And they (Udon) are doubling up the volumes so only 5 in total which should also make this a very easy series to collect in full. But this was definitely a license announcement I am very happy about.I never thought we would get the anime and now we get both the manga and anime.

Series I am reading Scans for That I Want to be Licensed

* Chihayafuru: One of my dream licenses. At this point I want the manga more than the anime (well I have the anime from Australia already) but I like to own the whole story and the only way to do that is with the manga. I am reading this Online. I hate reading scanlations so I have to really love a series to make the effort so yes I really love Chihayafuru. My main hope for this series getting licensed is after it finishes.

* Yona of the Dawn: Just started reading scans for this at Otakon and I also love every second of it. This is an epic fantasy with a great female lead and well I love every character. I know I love a manga when my heart just flutters seeing the characters (its the same with Hagaren, Natsume, Chihayafuru, etc). The anime was also excellent but it ended right when things were just getting started. The anime almost felt like an introduction (also hoping for a 2nd season of the anime). Personally I had hope this would have already gotten licensed (I mean it isn't something obscure like Karuta) but I guess the fact that it is long and ongoing might be hurting its chances. Still praying to the manga gods because I really need to own this series.

* Silver Spoon Okay I have not read scanlations for this yet (but I might consider after I catch up with Yona). I really thought a series written by Arakawa would have been picked up by now (even if it takes place on a farm) but looks like no one wants to take a risk which makes me sad.

I also still want someone to continue Nodame Cantabile but that seems like a lost cause at this point. :(

Also relate to manga but the novels for Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Baccano have also been licensed. Also plan to buy those but the Kindle version. Need to say no to physical releases somewhere (actually I would buy more manga digitally but my Kindle doesn't support it and I don't feel like buying a new Kindle until I need to. There are definitely others things I'd rather spend money on).

nodame cantabile, manga, gekkan shoujo nozaki-kun, arakawa, baccano, rose of versailles, barakamon, yona of the dawn, natsume yuujinchou, chihayafuru, silver spoon, logh
