Whenever I get into a new series I seem to not be able to stop talking about it and since live journal I feel is still the best place to talk about things

Escape to Tampico really was a great episode. I remember the twist ending, but I'll have to watch it again to see if I think it made sense or not. But I will say that I can definitely sympathize with frustration over episodes where the ending just doesn't seem to make sense with the characters. In addition to that happening in the Lauren Bacall episodes of Rockford, it happened in The Hawaiian Headache episode. I still refuse to believe that the person eventually arrested for murder was guilty. I'm writing a sequel to that episode where Jim gets recruited to figure out who framed the poor guy

For me the ending of Escape to Tampico was worse than the Lauren Bacall ep bc with the Bacall ep I just felt it was dumb but I didn't care about the princess. I really liked Mohr's character here and his relationship with Garner's Maverick. So the ending hurt a bit, but the rest of the episode is top notch writing for sure.
My favorite scene in Gun Shy is when the deputy tells Maverick that the Sheriff will shoot him and Bret is like no he said only if he sees me and then the deputy agrees and gets all chummy with him lol.
And yeah Rivals was very cute with a great script.
I had literally just watched Rope of Cards so it was fresh in my mind. I liked the whole Maverick Solitaire scene but it's true the rest of the ep is nothing special.
I also just watched Joe November which is another Bret ep I really enjoyed.
I definitely don't think I remember that one, unless that was the supposed Dragnet parody? That episode puzzled me so much. There was supposed to be all this hilarious deadpan narration, but in the copy I saw, there was only the briefest bit in the beginning. I wondered if Cozi had removed most of it, for some reason, or if the amount had been exaggerated from the beginning.
No I don't think it was a Dragnet parody (and I don't think I saw that ep)
This was just an episode where Bret is asked to take a coffin with a dead guy who supposedly died of yellow fever but it is really filled with jewels instead. We also meet a girl (played by Roxanne Berard) who he knew as a child. And Nita Talbot (who played Marya in Hogans Heroes) is in this ep too.
Oh in that case I do know what ep you are talking about: A cure for Johnny Rain. I liked the actor who played Johnny Rain but the episode kind of dragged on for me. It didn't really come off as a Dragnet parody though so if it was supposed to be I don't think they did a very good job with that aspect.
Bah, I was hoping maybe the uncut version had more funny narration. They definitely could have done better at making a Dragnet parody. Maybe I should try it sometime.
Probably almost anything. LOL. For some reason, I suddenly pictured a Maverick version of West Side Story, with Bret probably serving a Doc-type role and being in horror at the gangs trying to shoot it out. I have an image of the young couple both ending up shot but neither one dying, because the parody should be happy and cute.
That is actually very similar to the premise of Maverick and Juliet of course West Side Story basically is Romeo & Juliet (but M&J has a happy ending) :)
But I suppose there are quite a few other Shakespeare stories that would work well for Maverick too.
Ahh, true, I didn't stop to think that it was probably similar to that episode. I wasn't sure how much of the story they lifted, since I figured most of the plot was probably devoted to Bret and Bart being pitted against each other.
Probably so. LOL. Probably almost any of those would work.
Yeah the premise of the ep is Bret is caught between the two feuding families (who are feuding for no good reason) but the son and daughter of the two families are in love.
The Bret and Bart poker game happens 1/2 way in the episode. Bret recommends a poker game to settle the feud and he will act as representative but he doesn't realize that the other family has Bart. And basicalky the two families make it a bit difficult for Bret and Bart to lose.

LOL. That was definitely amusing.
Cool. I don't recall that one from the title alone....
